On any given week the booking might run from a sold-out Dave Alvin show to a free Saturday afternoon dance party with The Siren’s resident party band – and both shows pack the room.
Owners Paul and Kelly Boisclair took over the historic 900 Main Street site, formerly Happy Jacks and then the Fuel Dock, and expanded the original club into the building next door to create the current venue. General manager Monte Schaller books the calendar, working closely with promoter Good Medicine Presents to land touring artists on the route between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The result is a room that genuinely matters on the Central Coast circuit – intimate enough to feel like a private show, big enough to draw real touring names.
The Siren occupies an L-shaped floor plan, which is part of what makes the experience distinctive. The stage is viewable from one side of the club, with a riser in front built to bridge the foundation gap between the two combined buildings (the neighboring foundation sits about 20 inches higher than the original). The riser comfortably holds about 70 people up close – the prime real estate when a major act takes the stage. Behind and around the riser, the rest of the room opens up with bar seating, table seating, and standing room for the busier shows.
Capacity tops out at 370, though ticketed shows are often capped at 300 to keep the experience comfortable. The Siren is intentionally a small, intimate club-style venue – the kind of room where the bass player can make eye contact with the front row.
The booking lives somewhere between roots rock club, tribute-night venue, and small-touring stop, with weekly free shows filling in the calendar’s edges. A typical month at The Siren includes:
Most evening shows are 21+ with doors typically at 7:00 or 7:30 PM. The venue closes to the public during private soundchecks, usually from 5:00 or 6:00 PM until doors open. Tickets for most shows sell through Good Medicine Presents.
The Siren operates a full bar and kitchen, with food served throughout most shows. The menu leans upscale pub fare – the kind of food that pairs naturally with a beer and a night of live music. The bar runs a full selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.
Tables are limited and most are first-come, first-served. For larger shows, the venue offers reservable tables for groups of 4 to 6 – typically priced at $75 to $100 per table in addition to ticket admission.
The Siren’s kitchen continues serving food during shows until approximately 11:00 PM on most nights.
Location: 900 Main Street, Morro Bay, CA – on the corner of Main Street and Harbor Boulevard, in the heart of downtown Morro Bay. The venue is a five-minute walk from the Embarcadero waterfront, ten minutes from Morro Rock Beach, and two blocks from Morro Bay City Park.
Phone: (805) 225-1312
Parking: Free street parking on Main Street and surrounding blocks. Lots are available a short walk away; arrive early for sold-out shows.
Age policy: Most evening shows are 21+. Free Saturday afternoon shows and select early evening events sometimes admit all ages – check the individual event listing.
Door policy: Doors typically open 30 minutes to an hour before showtime. The Siren closes to the public during soundcheck (often 5:00 or 6:00 PM to doors); there is no early entry for dinner during these windows. Most shows are general admission, first-come, first-served seating, with the exception of pre-reserved tables.
Best for: Live music nights, date nights with a show, group nights out, tribute-band parties, free Saturday afternoons. The Siren is one of the few venues in San Luis Obispo County where you can reliably catch genuine touring artists in a small-room setting.
