The Central Coast Dance Community hosts these midday gatherings on the third Wednesday of every month at the Morro Bay Community Center, 1001 Kennedy Way, and the format is simple and friendly: a potluck at noon, a dance lesson at 12:30, and live music from 1:30 to 3 PM.
Lesson is Bolero, taught by CCDC president and longtime local dance instructor Shari Fortino. Bolero is the slow, romantic ballroom dance that originated in Cuba, and it’s a generous choice for a mixed-experience room: easy enough for first-timers, expressive enough that experienced dancers can find new texture in it.
The band is Morro Bay Faction, one of the local groups CCDC pulls into regular rotation. Ten dollars at the door gets you the lesson, the band, and the dance floor.
Bring a dish for the potluck if you can. The community plates out at noon, conversation runs through the meal, and the lesson rolls right into the band. If you’ve never danced socially before, this is one of the friendliest rooms on the Central Coast to start in. Costume optional, theme welcomed.
