The Morro Bay Community Center is the town’s indoor commons: the city-run events building at 1001 Kennedy Way where fundraiser dinners, concerts, classes, club meetings, and festival headquarters all take their turns. If you’ve lived here any length of time, you’ve been inside for something; if you’re visiting for an event, odds are decent this is where it’s happening.
The building is bigger than it looks from the parking lot. The full auditorium runs 3,680 square feet and seats over 500, and it divides into east and west halls for mid-sized events, with a multipurpose room, studio classroom, conference room, and a commercial kitchen behind it all: nearly 10,000 square feet of event space in total. A portable stage, projection screens, tables, chairs, and a large lobby round it out, and parking is plentiful, which is not a sentence you get to write about many venues in a beach town.
Operated by City of Morro Bay Recreation Services, the Center anchors the town’s calendar year-round, from weekly fitness classes and dances to the Morro Bay Bird Festival’s headquarters each January and the service clubs’ big fundraiser nights. Rentals run daily from 7 AM to midnight through Recreation Services at (805) 772-6278.
Whatever’s on at the Center this week is listed with everything else on the Morro Bay events calendar.
