The 576-foot volcanic plug that anchors every view in town, Morro Rock is roughly 23 million years old and the last and most dramatic of the Nine Sisters chain. Climbing the Rock is prohibited because peregrine falcons nest on its ledges, but the viewing area at its base and the north and south jetties draw walkers, anglers, photographers, and surfers year round. The surrounding beach and harbor mouth are among the most reliable spots in Morro Bay to watch sea otters, harbor seals, and migrating gray whales in season. Parking is at the end of Embarcadero where it meets Coleman Drive.
