On Main Street in Morro Bay. Paul Thorn plays The Siren on Wednesday, October 28, doors at 6:30 PM, the Mississippi songwriter whose catalog runs blues, gospel, and storytelling country in the same set. Tickets run $32 to $35 at thesirenmorrobay.com, and for a songwriter of Thorn’s standing, the Siren’s close quarters are a gift.
Thorn’s backstory is half the show: a former professional boxer who once went the distance with Roberto Durán, raised in a Pentecostal preacher’s house in Tupelo, and shaped by both into songs that swing between gut-punch honesty and sly Southern humor. Decades of touring have made him one of Americana’s most reliable live acts, equal parts concert and storytelling night, with plenty of road behind the voice. Songs like Pimps and Preachers carry both sides of that upbringing at once.
The Siren is the Main Street room that carries most of Morro Bay’s live music, small, dark, and close to the stage, with the kitchen and full bar running through the night. Shows are 21 and over per the venue’s evening policy, and seating is first come, so arriving ahead of the start gets a table.
