Paint Nite takes over La Katrina with a create-your-own sugar skull calavera design
On the Morro Bay Embarcadero. Paint Nite returns to La Katrina on Thursday, October 15 at 5:30 PM, with this month’s guided painting, a create-your-own sugar skull calavera design. Timed to the season, the calavera project lets every painter design their own take on the Día de los Muertos icon, which makes it the rare paint night where no two canvases in the room should match. Tickets are $45 through paintnite.com, which covers all supplies, canvas, paint, brushes, and step-by-step instruction, no experience needed.
The night is hosted by The Canvas Club, the top-rated local Paint Nite team led by artist Michelle Ducasse, who walks the room through the painting one step at a time while the margaritas and the kitchen at La Katrina handle the sip half of the equation. The create-your-own format gives this session more creative rope than the usual follow-along painting, with the calavera’s traditional flourishes as the starting point and the rest up to you.
La Katrina sits at 500 Embarcadero in the heart of the waterfront, and the vibrant cantina room makes a natural paint-night setting. The event is 21 and over per Paint Nite’s venue format, and the monthly series has become a standing date-night and friends-night fixture, with each month bringing a different painting, so no two sessions repeat.
