Top Dog Café Bar & Restaurant

Top Dog Café Bar & Restaurant is the latest chapter of one of downtown Morro Bay’s most recognizable gathering spots, the yellow coffeehouse at 857 Main St that generations of locals knew as Top Dog Coffee Bar. Reopened in May 2025 under new ownership by the Reyes family, the local crew behind Bay Deli, the café keeps the bones that made the original beloved, including the iconic Top Dog mural, while bringing fresh energy to the menu and the space.

Mornings still revolve around coffee and a breakfast burrito with a serious local following. The menu runs through espresso drinks, homemade pastries, and breakfast and lunch plates, with beer on tap for anyone settling in past the morning rush. The backyard patio remains one of the more relaxed places to sit in downtown Morro Bay, a few blocks up from the Embarcadero and an easy stop on a Main Street morning.

True to the name, dogs are genuinely welcome here, not merely tolerated. House-made doggy treats are on offer, and the café has hosted pet adoption events, a thread of the dog-forward identity that has run through this address for years. It sits in good company on the 800 block of Main, neighbors with Coalesce Bookstore and a short walk from Art Center Morro Bay, which makes it a natural first stop before a morning of browsing downtown.
