The prompt for the show is wildlife in the broadest sense, which on the Central Coast means more than the easy answers. Sea otters and peregrine falcons get attention, but so do shorebirds, marine mammals, the heron rookery at Morro Bay State Park, and the working ecology of the estuary. Member artists submit pieces in any medium that responds to the call.
The exhibit fills the main gallery at 835 Main Street, the Morro Bay Art Association’s home since 1951. Open daily noon to four, free admission. The run stretches about six weeks, with pieces rotating in and out as artists drop new work, so it rewards a return visit or two.
Opening reception details are still being confirmed. The Art Center typically holds a public Sunday afternoon reception in the first week or two of a new exhibit, with light food, wine, and the chance to meet some of the artists. Call (805) 772-2504 for the latest, or watch the Art Center’s social channels.
The exhibit pairs naturally with a walk through the Morro Bay State Park heron rookery, a paddle around the back bay to look for sea otters, or a docent walk through Sweet Springs Nature Preserve in Los Osos. Wildlife on the page, wildlife on the water, all in one afternoon.
