The Strawberry at Bay Theatre (One Showing Only)

July 6 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm PDT
$25

A locally made independent film gets one night on the Bay Theatre screen

On Morro Bay Boulevard. The Bay Theatre hosts a single showing of The Strawberry on Monday, July 6, an independent feature made by Central Coast filmmakers and screened for one night only at the historic single-screen downtown movie house. Ticket sales benefit the film’s crew, a group of independent filmmakers and artists from the surrounding area, which makes this as much a local-film community night as it is a movie showing.

The film stars Mike Farrell, known to a generation as B.J. Hunnicutt on the M*A*S*H television series, as Herb Kaplan, a man who seeks peace with his broken family after a terminal diagnosis and learns to cherish what is in front of him. Inspired by a true story and directed by Carlos and Kyle Plummer, it runs 1 hour 37 minutes (not rated) and represents years of collaboration within the area’s independent film scene. Seeing it on the big screen in the town where it was made, with the filmmakers’ own community in the seats, is a different experience than catching it anywhere else.

The Bay Theatre is the single-screen movie house on Morro Bay Boulevard, established in 1942, a community-minded venue that runs first-run films, nonprofit fundraiser screenings, and one-off events like this one. Its intimate downtown room is a fitting home for a Central Coast film premiere, the kind of night that turns a movie into an event.

This is a one-showing-only event. VIP doors open at 4:30 PM, general admission doors at 5 PM, and the show starts at 5:30 PM. Tickets are available through this link, and a single-night screening like this can sell out, so booking ahead is wise.
