Nearby: 🎶 Open Mic Night at Schooners

Schooners opens the Music Room mic every Wednesday night

In Cayucos, up the coast. Schooners runs Open Mic Night every Wednesday at 7 PM in its Music Room, with signups starting at 6, hosted by local favorite Sam Fischer, and the first Wednesday of each month handed to Kam Alton as guest host. Music and poetry both take the stage, from Cayucos regulars to whoever happens to be passing through on Highway 1, and the jams have a reputation for running late when the room is right.

A standing open mic at a beachfront venue draws a different crowd than a bar-back-room version: the Music Room gives performers a real stage, the restaurant keeps the audience fed, and the mix of locals and travelers means no two Wednesdays sound alike. Performers and listeners are equally welcome, and the signup sheet is democratic, get there at 6 if you want a good slot. The room has launched more than a few local collaborations, since half the players in the county pass through it eventually.

Schooners sits a few steps from the Cayucos Pier with a full bar and menu running through the night, about ten minutes up Highway 1 from Morro Bay. Free, no cover, every Wednesday.
