🎶 Live Music: Bluegrass Night – Never Come Down with The Turkey Buzzards at The Siren

The Siren goes bluegrass on Wednesday night for a two-band bill that’s hotter than the genre’s casual reputation suggests: Never Come Down, one of the more critically watched young bluegrass bands working right now, with The Turkey Buzzards opening.

Never Come Down plays the modern strain of bluegrass that draws on the tradition without being captive to it: tight harmonies, virtuoso picking, songwriting that holds up alongside the standards. The Turkey Buzzards bring local Central Coast bluegrass roots and a looser, more rambunctious energy to start the night.

This is the kind of show that turns people who think they don’t like bluegrass into people who lean forward by the third song. The Siren’s intimate room makes the close-mic’d vocal harmonies and the instrument work hit differently than they would in a bigger venue.
