On Main Street in Morro Bay. IV and the Strange Band play The Siren on Sunday, August 23 at 7 PM, with the gloriously odd Clownvis Presley supporting. Tickets run $20 to $25 at thesirenmorrobay.com. The venue bills the headliner plainly: this is Hank Williams the 4th, the latest bearer of country music’s most storied bloodline, running that inheritance through a loud, strange, thoroughly modern filter.
The Williams lineage comes with expectations, and IV’s answer is to honor the twang while refusing the museum-piece treatment, outlaw country with distortion and attitude. Clownvis Presley, the self-styled King of Clowns, opens with an act that is exactly what the name promises and has built a genuine cult following doing it. Together, the bill is one of the strangest and most compelling of the Siren’s summer.
The Siren is the Main Street room that carries most of Morro Bay’s live music, small, dark, and close to the stage, with the kitchen and full bar running through the night. Shows are 21 and over per the venue’s evening policy, and seating is first come, so arriving early gets a table.
