In North Morro Bay. Comedy Night returns to The Nauti Anchor on Friday, July 31, with comedian Chris Cruz headlining an hour-long show from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Doors open at 6:30, general admission is free, and reserved VIP tables are available for purchase, so the front of the room can be claimed ahead of time while everyone else rolls in on the house.
Cruz arrives with 14 years of stand-up behind him, performing across the country with material drawn from his Latino upbringing and a healthy supply of relationship advice, the kind of lived-in, crowd-work-friendly set an hour-long bar show rewards. His resume includes The Haha Cafe, The Well Comedy Club, and Laughs Unlimited, established comedy rooms that say a working comic has put in the miles. Fair warning per the venue: the material is mature and the show is 18 and over.
The Nauti Anchor has made the former Foghorn Brewhouse space at 2940 Main Street one of North Morro Bay’s reliable gathering spots, and its monthly comedy nights have quickly become a fixture alongside the trivia and live music. The full kitchen and the taps run through the show, doors at 6:30 give plenty of runway for dinner before the first joke, and the one-hour format means the whole night wraps early enough to keep a Friday going afterward. No pets in the room, though kids are welcome to play outside during the show. Arriving early is the honest advice, since free comedy in a room this size fills fast.
