The Blue Street Jazz Band plays a free Saturday matinee at The Siren with pianist Carl Sonny Leyland sitting in.

Traditional jazz with a dance floor, free, on a Saturday afternoon: the Blue Street Jazz Band brings its Dixieland book to Main Street with boogie-woogie pianist Carl Sonny Leyland as special guest. Trumpeter Forrest Helmick founded the band in 1983, and trombonist Dave Ruffner leads it now with Sherri Colby on vocals; the repertoire runs from Kid Ory and Jelly Roll Morton to swing, Mardi Gras tunes, and gospel. Lunch and the bar run through the set, and the venue’s advice is to arrive early for a seat.
