Nearby: Montaña de Oro Birding Walk at Spooner’s Cove

September 12 @ 8:30 am - 12:00 pm PDT
Free

Morro Coast Audubon leads a birding walk through Montaña de Oro, from the Spooner’s Cove bluffs up Islay Creek.

Mark Mushkat leads this one, starting on the sea bluffs above Spooner’s Cove, working the rocky shoreline for sea ducks, shorebirds, and raptors, then turning inland along Islay Creek into the pine-dotted campgrounds for passerines and woodpeckers. One to two gentle, ADA-accessible miles through the park locals treat as a backyard, and visitors drive hours for. This trip is pitched at intermediate and experienced birders with eBird accounts.

Where: Montaña de Oro State Park, Spooner’s Cove, Pecho Valley Rd, Los Osos
When: Saturday, September 12, 2026, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM
Who: Morro Coast Audubon Society
Cost: Free; registration required
Good to know: Limited to 12 participants; eBird account required; request registration through the MCAS site and wait for confirmation
