One of the world’s premier traditional Celtic bands plays a Monday night on Main Street, and the room is set up to match: this is a seated show, folding chairs across the dance floor, first come first served, with a limited number of $100 tables for four to six in back with clear views of the stage. Pipes, fiddle, and strings with what the Winnipeg Free Press called a drive akin to straight-ahead rock and roll, and the New York Times called an especially eloquent mixture of the old and the new.
The Tannahill Weavers were born of a session in Paisley, Scotland, and took their name from the town’s weaving industry and its poet laureate Robert Tannahill; across five decades they’ve built an international name for traditional melodies played with modern power, from fire-driven instrumentals to topical songs.
