The White Caps play Music by the Rock on their home stage, the South T-Pier
On the Morro Bay waterfront. The Morro Bay White Caps, the town’s own community concert band, open their Music by the Rock series on Saturday, August 1 at 11 AM on the South T-Pier, with guest artist Mitch Latting featured on the program. The concert is free, and the setting is the whole point: the band sets up on the pier with Morro Rock filling the view behind them, the harbor working on either side, and the audience gathered in the open air.
The White Caps are volunteer musicians from around the bay playing uplifting concert band favorites, marches, standards, and singalong-familiar tunes, and the T-Pier is their home stage. A late-morning start puts the show right in the fog-lift window, when the marine layer usually burns off and the Rock comes out of the gray on cue. A guest artist billing makes this opening date a touch more special than the standing series, one more reason to catch this one.
Bring a folding chair or claim a spot along the rail, and layer up: the waterfront at 11 AM can run ten degrees cooler than downtown until the sun does its work. The concert makes a natural anchor for a full Embarcadero Saturday, music first, then lunch on the waterfront with the whole afternoon ahead. Anyone who plays an instrument and feels the pull can reach the band at mbwhitecaps@gmail.com; community bands run on new members.
