In downtown Morro Bay. The Bay Theatre’s Monday Specials series screens Summer Tour on Monday, August 3, one showing only, doors at 5:00 PM and the film at 5:30, with $10 admission. Mischa Richter’s charming indie road documentary follows two young travelers in a less-than-reliable camper van chasing Dead & Company across the country on the band’s final tour, a love letter to the fans who built their lives around the music. Not rated, 1 hour 22 minutes.
The screening is presented in conjunction with Cruise Control Contemporary Art Gallery, the kind of local-partner pairing the Monday Specials series is built on, and a Dead documentary in a small-town single-screen theatre is about as on-spirit as exhibition gets. Expect tie-dye in the seats and nobody minding.
The Bay Theatre is Morro Bay’s single-screen downtown movie house at 464 Morro Bay Blvd, a block off the Embarcadero, where a night at the movies still comes with a real marquee and walkable dinner options on either side of the show. The theatre is closed Thursdays. At under 90 minutes with a 5:30 start, the evening leaves plenty of runway for dinner downtown after.
