On Main Street in Morro Bay. Nearvana brings its Nirvana tribute to The Siren on Saturday, August 1 at 8 PM, paired with Everything Zen working the Bush catalog for a full night of 90s grunge. The two acts split the era between them: the heavy quiet-loud Seattle sound that Nirvana built, and the post-grunge British end that Bush carried onto American radio a few years later. It is a night aimed squarely at anyone who wore out a flannel shirt the first time around.
The Siren is the Main Street room that handles most of the in-town live music, a small, dark space that runs loud and puts the crowd right up against the stage. Grunge is exactly the kind of material the room was built for, and a tribute double bill gives the night a full-album-rock arc rather than a single act. Both bands work the catalogs faithfully, so expect the songs you know rather than loose reinterpretations.
Tickets are $18 at thesirenmorrobay.com, and the show is 21 and over in keeping with the venue’s evening bills. Doors and dinner open ahead of the music, with the Siren kitchen and full bar running through the set. Worth noting the room turns over twice this Saturday: the Siren runs a free Back Pages Band dance set at 2 PM in the afternoon before clearing for the grunge night, so August 1 is a two-show day on Main Street.
