In San Luis Obispo. Sunday closes the Live Oak Music Festival at El Chorro Regional Park with a blues-heavy programming day building toward a 7 PM headline set from Charlie Musselwhite and GA-20 on the KCBX Stage. The pairing teams the Mississippi-born harmonica legend and Grammy-winning blues player with the Boston blues trio GA-20, whose stripped-down two-guitar-and-drums catalog has built them serious touring credibility over the last several years. The two have an album out together, and Sunday’s headline slot is one of the more anticipated blues bills the Central Coast has hosted this year.
The day opens at 8 AM in the Beer Garden with Nico Larson and Dan Curcio, the songwriters from Próxima Parada and Moonshiner Collective playing a stripped-down duo set. Renée Christine returns at 9 AM. From there the day runs heavy on bluegrass and Americana: B and the Hive at 10, Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band at 11:30, and Slap Dragon at 1 PM working their unusual bluegrass-disco-R&B blend on the main stage. Marty O’Reilly brings folk-soul-blues to the Beer Garden at 2:15.
The Cheeseballs play a Stage Too set on Sunday at 2:15, the same Bay Area dance band that hits The Siren in Morro Bay on July 31. Sunday afternoon stacks Parlor Greens with soul-jazz and funk at 3:30, then Uncle Lucius bring southern rock, country, and blues to the main stage at 5 PM. Charlie Musselwhite and GA-20 close out the festival from 7 to 8:30 PM, after which the gates close, the campers pack up, and El Chorro returns to its weekday regional-park rhythm.
Sunday is the festival’s shortest day, wrapping by 8:30 PM, and it’s the easiest day to attend as a Morro Bay day-tripper without committing to the camping side of the experience. Highway 1 traffic out of El Chorro headed back to town is usually manageable in the post-headliner stretch. Service dogs only, no pets. Day tickets are sold through my805tix.com.
