Klara & The Sun, Taika Waititi’s Ishiguro adaptation, runs afternoon showings at the Bay Theatre.

Taika Waititi writes and directs Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel: Klara (Jenna Ortega), an Artificial Friend who wants nothing more than to find the perfect home, meets Josie (Mia Tharia), a girl whose fraught relationship with her mother (Amy Adams) and a family’s great loss have made her world complicated. Klara’s innocent wonder and unwavering loyalty begin to heal all of it. Rated PG-13, 1 hour 56 minutes, a six-day run that closes on Veterans Day. Sunday’s early show is the family-friendly slot for a story that handles its heavier themes gently.
