SUMMARY:Call of the Wild Exhibit at Art Center Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:Call of the Wild opens Thursday\, June 25\, at Art Center Morro Bay and stays up through August 3.\nThe prompt for the show is wildlife in the broadest sense\, which on the Central Coast means more than the easy answers. Sea otters and peregrine falcons get attention\, but so do shorebirds\, marine mammals\, the heron rookery at Morro Bay State Park\, and the working ecology of the estuary. Member artists submit pieces in any medium that responds to the call. \nThe exhibit fills the main gallery at 835 Main Street\, the Morro Bay Art Association’s home since 1951. Open daily noon to four\, free admission. The run stretches about six weeks\, with pieces rotating in and out as artists drop new work\, so it rewards a return visit or two. \nOpening reception details are still being confirmed. The Art Center typically holds a public Sunday afternoon reception in the first week or two of a new exhibit\, with light food\, wine\, and the chance to meet some of the artists. Call (805) 772-2504 for the latest\, or watch the Art Center’s social channels. \nThe exhibit pairs naturally with a walk through the Morro Bay State Park heron rookery\, a paddle around the back bay to look for sea otters\, or a docent walk through Sweet Springs Nature Preserve in Los Osos. Wildlife on the page\, wildlife on the water\, all in one afternoon. \nPlan your visit at hellomorrobay.com/events/. \n  \nPhoto Credit: https://www.artcentermorrobay.org/exhibits#OVzdql

SUMMARY:Morro Bay Thursday Farmers' Market
DESCRIPTION:Every Thursday afternoon\, the parking lot at Spencer’s Fresh Markets fills with the SLO County Farmers Market Association’s midweek market.\nFarmers come from as far south as Goleta\, as far east as Delano\, and up from Salinas\, so the produce table runs deep: stone fruit and berries in summer\, citrus and greens in the cooler months\, plus flowers\, eggs\, and prepared food. It smells like the ocean and stocks like the valley. \nIt’s an easy stop\, right off Highway 1 at 2650 Main Street\, and it runs year-round. Bring a bag and cash for the vendors who prefer it. \nFor more markets\, tastings\, and good food around town\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:4th of July Weekend: Friday Night Festival at Tidelands Park
DESCRIPTION:Morro Bay kicks off its 4th of July Weekend Celebration on Friday night with a full-on Friday Night Festival at Tidelands Park\, anchored by an 80s tribute concert from The Molly Ringwald Project at 6:00 PM and a drone show at 9:00 PM that closes out the night.\nThe Molly Ringwald Project (tMRP) is one of the Central Coast’s top-drawing tribute acts\, formed in 2012\, with a sold-out track record from Mission Plaza to The Cliffs to The Siren. Their setlist runs from arena rock to synth-pop and back: Van Halen\, Madonna\, Prince\, Cyndi Lauper\, the whole golden age of big hair\, neon colors\, and shoulder pads. 80s outfits are highly recommended. \nAt 9:00 PM\, the festival caps off with a drone show over the harbor – a modern Independence Day finale that lights up the Morro Bay skyline in choreographed formations. This is the City of Morro Bay’s first drone show celebration tied to the 4th of July weekend and a fitting headline for America’s 250th anniversary. \nFood trucks line the park throughout the evening. A beer garden keeps the adults stocked. And out on the water\, the Chablis – the floating bar operated by Big Rock Charters – is open\, turning the harbor into part of the festival. \nFree admission. Bring layers; the harbor cools off fast after sunset. The Friday Night Festival is the adult-leaning bookend to Saturday’s Family Fun Day\, which kicks off the next morning at 10:30 AM with the annual Bike Parade. \nFor more shows and events around town this weekend\, the HelloMorroBay calendar has the rest. \n

Deck out your bike in your patriotic best – motorized bikes and skateboards welcome\, prizes for the most patriotic\, the most creative\, and the most over-the-top.\n11:00 AM – Concert: Rosewood and Honey. Central Coast favorites Jenny\, Danny\, and Mike bring their signature acoustic harmonies to the Tidelands bandstand. Rosewood and Honey’s range runs from Crosby Stills & Nash to Kacey Musgraves to Fleetwood Mac to Coldplay to Dua Lipa\, all wrapped in vocal arrangements that are the band’s calling card. Their set closes with a national anthem by their own Jessy George.\n12:00 PM – Opening Flag Ceremony. The official Independence Day flag raising.\n12:15 PM – Hot Dog Eating Contest. A genuinely entertaining annual tradition.\n1:00 PM – Concert: Sound Investment. Local SLO-based dance band Sound Investment takes the stage – classic rock\, pop hits\, disco\, funk\, country\, Motown\, “Dance Music You Can Bank On.” Their setlist spans generations and their stage time is reliably the most crowded part of the bandstand lawn.\nAll day – Carnival and Bounce House. $5 wristbands per child cover unlimited play across the carnival games\, bounce house\, and lawn activities. Family-friendly games and contests run continuously through the afternoon.\nAll day – BBQ\, facepainting\, and lawn games. Sponsored in part by Gilligan’s Sandwich Shop and the Kiwanis Club of Morro Bay.\n\nThe carnival side is family-focused; the music side draws a broader crowd; the harbor sets the entire scene. Bring cash – food and drink vendors are cash-only. \nLooking for the Friday night portion? The 4th of July Weekend kicks off Friday July 3 with the Friday Night Festival at Tidelands Park – The Molly Ringwald Project at 6:00 PM and a drone show at 9:00 PM. And the Waterfront Market is running all weekend (Friday through Sunday) in the parking lot between Giovanni’s Fish Market and Stax Wine Bar. \nTo see everything happening across Morro Bay this holiday weekend\, browse the calendar.

SUMMARY:Taco Temple 4th of July Beer Fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity
DESCRIPTION:Taco Temple pours for a cause this 4th of July with a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser\nIn North Morro Bay. Taco Temple is turning Independence Day into a give-back day\, donating one dollar from every beer it sells on Saturday\, July 4 to Habitat for Humanity. The fundraiser runs all day\, from open until the 8 PM close\, so any beer you order with your lunch\, your afternoon\, or your early dinner puts a dollar toward building homes for local families. It is an easy way to fold a little good into a holiday already built around food\, sun\, and time with people you like. \nTaco Temple is the North Morro Bay institution at 2680 Main Street\, the kind of unpretentious\, fish-forward spot where the line out the door is its own recommendation. The menu leans on fresh local seafood and oversized plates\, and the beer list is deep enough that a dollar-per-pour fundraiser adds up fast over a busy holiday. Bring a group\, order another round\, and the cause benefits along with your afternoon. \nHabitat for Humanity works to build and repair homes for families across San Luis Obispo County\, and a restaurant fundraiser like this one is the kind of low-key local support that keeps that work going. There is no ticket and no cover\, just regular service with a charitable twist: show up\, eat well\, have a beer\, and a piece of it goes to a good place. \nThe 4th of July is one of Morro Bay’s busiest days\, so expect a crowd and plan for a wait at peak hours. For more holiday happenings and community events around the bay this weekend\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music Saturdays at High Tide Deli
DESCRIPTION:Free Saturday afternoons on the High Tide Deli patio\nHigh Tide Deli runs free live music on the patio every Saturday from noon to 2 PM\, the kind of low-key weekly slot that turns a sandwich-shop lunch into something you actually plan around. The lineup rotates\, the show is short and casual\, and the menu does the rest. No cover\, no reservations needed\, no big production. Just music and lunch on the patio at 500 Morro Bay Boulevard. \nHigh Tide is a Morro Bay favorite that sits at the downtown end of the Boulevard\, an indoor/outdoor cafe known for build-your-own sandwiches\, acai bowls\, smoothies\, and a serious coffee menu. The Turkey Bliss is a regular contender\, the avocado toast has a following\, and the build-your-own runs deep with options like Dutch Crunch rolls\, pesto mayo\, and the standard Morro Bay add-ons (bacon\, avocado\, jalapeno cheddar bread). The retail section of the cafe stocks local goods\, which makes the post-lunch browse part of the experience. \nThe patio is dog-friendly and family-friendly\, with shade across the seating area on most afternoons and the kind of casual stretch that lets the music play without becoming the whole event. The Saturday slot draws regulars and walk-ins in roughly equal measure. High Tide is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM\, and the music slot lines up neatly with the lunch rush. \nSpecific artists are not always announced in advance. High Tide drops weekend lineup updates on their Instagram (@hightidemorrobay) ahead of the show\, so check there for who’s playing this Saturday. \nFor more free shows\, weekend lunch plans\, and live music around the bay\, see the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music Saturdays at Top Dog Café
DESCRIPTION:Free live music every Saturday afternoon in the Top Dog Coffee Bar garden\nOn Main Street in Morro Bay. Top Dog Coffee Bar runs free live music in its back garden every Saturday afternoon through the end of summer\, from 2 to 4 PM. The weekly series brings a rotating lineup of local musicians to the garden space behind the coffee bar\, an easygoing\, no-cover way to spend a Saturday afternoon downtown with a coffee in hand and live music in the air. \nThe timing pairs naturally with the Main Street farmers market\, which runs its certified-market stretch on Main between 2:30 and 5:30 PM. The two turn a Saturday into a full downtown afternoon: browse the produce stands and vendors\, then settle into the Top Dog garden for the music\, or work it the other direction. It’s the kind of walkable\, unhurried afternoon the heart of Main Street does well\, and a reliable free option all summer long. \nTop Dog’s back garden is a tucked-away patio behind the coffee bar\, a relaxed spot for an acoustic set away from the Main Street sidewalk. The full coffee menu runs through the afternoon\, so espresso drinks and the rest of the lineup are on hand while the music plays. Family-friendly and dog-friendly\, fitting for a place named Top Dog. The performing lineup changes week to week\, so each Saturday is its own set. \nStop in on any Saturday through the season for a free afternoon of music on Main Street. For more live music and weekend happenings around the bay\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:The Strawberry at Bay Theatre (One Showing Only)
DESCRIPTION:A locally made independent film gets one night on the Bay Theatre screen\nOn Morro Bay Boulevard. The Bay Theatre hosts a single showing of The Strawberry on Monday\, July 6\, an independent feature made by Central Coast filmmakers and screened for one night only at the historic single-screen downtown movie house. Ticket sales benefit the film’s crew\, a group of independent filmmakers and artists from the surrounding area\, which makes this as much a local-film community night as it is a movie showing. \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nThe film stars Mike Farrell\, known to a generation as B.J. Hunnicutt on the M*A*S*H television series\, as Herb Kaplan\, a man who seeks peace with his broken family after a terminal diagnosis and learns to cherish what is in front of him. Inspired by a true story and directed by Carlos and Kyle Plummer\, it runs 1 hour 37 minutes (not rated) and represents years of collaboration within the area’s independent film scene. Seeing it on the big screen in the town where it was made\, with the filmmakers’ own community in the seats\, is a different experience than catching it anywhere else. \nThe Bay Theatre is the single-screen movie house on Morro Bay Boulevard\, established in 1942\, a community-minded venue that runs first-run films\, nonprofit fundraiser screenings\, and one-off events like this one. Its intimate downtown room is a fitting home for a Central Coast film premiere\, the kind of night that turns a movie into an event. \nThis is a one-showing-only event. VIP doors open at 4:30 PM\, general admission doors at 5 PM\, and the show starts at 5:30 PM. Tickets are available through this link\, and a single-night screening like this can sell out\, so booking ahead is wise. \n \nFor more film nights\, screenings\, and community happenings around the bay\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.
