SUMMARY:Orange Crush Exhibit at Art Center Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:Orange Crush is on view at Art Center Morro Bay through Sunday\, June 22\, with members of the Morro Bay Art Association responding to a single color and concept with whatever it brings out of them.\nThe result is the kind of group show the Art Center does well: dozens of working local artists\, a wide mix of mediums\, and an organizing color that keeps a coherent thread running through the room. \nThe Art Center is in the unmistakable building at 835 Main Street\, the one with the giant Rock mural across the side. The Morro Bay Art Association has been programming exhibits and supporting working artists from this address since 1951\, making it one of the longest-running volunteer art organizations in the state. Worth knowing on the way in. \nOpen daily noon to four\, free admission. The shop in the front room rotates members’ jewelry\, ceramics\, cards\, and small works that don’t always make it into the main exhibits\, and is worth a slow look on the way out. \nIf you’ve been meaning to stop in\, the final week is the moment. The next exhibit\, Call of the Wild\, opens June 25. \nMark your calendar at hellomorrobay.com/events/. \n  \nphoto credit: https://www.artcentermorrobay.org/exhibits#xuOwqR

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Makua Rothman at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:A genuinely unusual booking for a Tuesday night: Makua Rothman\, who grew up on the North Shore of Oahu and became a World Surf League Big Wave World Champion\, now tours as a reggae and rock musician with the same easy authority he brings to a 50-foot wave.\nThe sound is island reggae with a rock backbone\, songs about water and family and the long view\, and the kind of stage presence you’d expect from someone who’s spent his life in front of literal walls of ocean. \nThe Siren’s the right room for this. A 370-capacity club with the warm-room feel of an evening on a North Shore porch turned indoors\, and the kind of bookings that don’t happen in towns this size very often. Tuesday night might be the calendar’s quietest slot\, but on June 9 it’s the one to clear. \nTable reservations are limited and $100 each\, email monte@thesirenmorrobay.com to lock one in. Otherwise general admission. Full Siren bar and kitchen running through the show. Tickets through Good Medicine Presents. \nThere’s always more going on\, the HelloMorroBay events calendar keeps track.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Bluegrass Night - Never Come Down with The Turkey Buzzards at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:The Siren goes bluegrass on Wednesday night for a two-band bill that’s hotter than the genre’s casual reputation suggests: Never Come Down\, one of the more critically watched young bluegrass bands working right now\, with The Turkey Buzzards opening.\nNever Come Down plays the modern strain of bluegrass that draws on the tradition without being captive to it: tight harmonies\, virtuoso picking\, songwriting that holds up alongside the standards. The Turkey Buzzards bring local Central Coast bluegrass roots and a looser\, more rambunctious energy to start the night. \nThis is the kind of show that turns people who think they don’t like bluegrass into people who lean forward by the third song. The Siren’s intimate room makes the close-mic’d vocal harmonies and the instrument work hit differently than they would in a bigger venue. \nDoors at 7:00 PM. Table reservations are $100 and include group admission\, email monte@thesirenmorrobay.com. Full bar and kitchen during the show. Tickets via Good Medicine Presents. \nFor more music and events around the area\, the HelloMorroBay calendar has it.

SUMMARY:Morro Bay Thursday Farmers' Market
DESCRIPTION:Every Thursday afternoon\, the parking lot at Spencer’s Fresh Markets fills with the SLO County Farmers Market Association’s midweek market.\nFarmers come from as far south as Goleta\, as far east as Delano\, and up from Salinas\, so the produce table runs deep: stone fruit and berries in summer\, citrus and greens in the cooler months\, plus flowers\, eggs\, and prepared food. It smells like the ocean and stocks like the valley. \nIt’s an easy stop\, right off Highway 1 at 2650 Main Street\, and it runs year-round. Bring a bag and cash for the vendors who prefer it. \nFor more markets\, tastings\, and good food around town\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Art on the Patio at Art Center Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:Art Center Morro Bay opens its patio on the second Saturday of each month for Art on the Patio\, an outdoor extension of the gallery on Main Street where members of the Morro Bay Art Association display work\, demonstrate technique\, and engage with anyone who wanders past.\nSaturday\, June 13\, runs from noon to 4 PM. \nThis is the easy way to meet the artists behind the work in the gallery. The atmosphere is informal and the door between conversation and purchase is wide open. You can bring a sketchbook\, bring questions about a technique you’ve been wrestling with\, or just enjoy an afternoon in front of the iconic Morro Rock mural at 835 Main Street. \nThe June occurrence is part of a new every-second-Saturday cadence\, so this becomes a reliable monthly anchor for Art Center programming. \nFree\, open to all\, drop in any time. \nMore on the HelloMorroBay events calendar for the rest of the week.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Bon Bon Vivant with Tracorum at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:Two New Orleans-adjacent acts on one Sunday-night bill at The Siren: Bon Bon Vivant\, a New Orleans band that plays bawdy cabaret\, dark ballads\, and uptempo indie pop with the dramatic theatricality the city is built on\, opens for Tracorum\, a band that mixes New Orleans-style soul with what they themselves describe as cosmic thunder funk.\nThe result is a night that doesn’t fit neatly into any one genre and isn’t trying to. \nThis is a great show for the kind of music fan who’d rather discover a band than chase one they already know. The Siren’s intimate room and forward riser put the audience close enough to catch every move on stage\, which both of these acts use to full effect. \nDoors at 7:00 PM. Table reservations are $75 and include admission for four\, email monte@thesirenmorrobay.com. Full bar and kitchen through the show. Tickets via Good Medicine Presents. \nThe full week of Morro Bay events is on the HelloMorroBay calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Shü Lace at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:Shü Lace lands a free Monday night at The Siren\nShü Lace plays a free Monday night at The Siren\, the psychedelic space-rock duo running heavy grooves and improvised soundscapes that pull from desert rock and spacey jam aesthetics. Dinner runs from 7 PM\, music starts at 7:45 PM\, and the night plays out long and loud on Main Street. \nMonday-night live music is rare on the Central Coast. Most rooms reserve weeknights for trivia\, karaoke\, or a dark night\, and the touring circuit tends to land bands in larger California cities midweek before working out to the coastal markets on Thursday and Friday. The Siren is one of the few rooms in Morro Bay that consistently programs Monday nights\, and the free shows like this one tend to be the ones that punch hardest above their slot. \nThe Siren is the main downtown live-music room in Morro Bay\, a few blocks back from the Embarcadero at 900 Main. The space stays small enough that the band is close\, loud enough that the floor moves\, and friendly enough that the regulars know which corner of the bar is the right one for a quieter conversation between sets. Free shows fill up earlier than the ticketed nights\, so showing up around dinner is the move if you want a stool. \nNo cover at the door\, full kitchen running before the set\, full bar through the night. Parking is on Main Street and the surrounding blocks\, and the walk back to the Embarcadero is short and well-lit if you want to keep the night going. \nFor more live music and free shows around the bay this week\, see the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Central Coast Dance Community Pirates and Mermaids Dance at Morro Bay Community Center
DESCRIPTION:The Wednesday afternoon edition of Morro Bay Dances drops anchor on June 17 with a Pirates and Mermaids theme.\nThe Central Coast Dance Community hosts these midday gatherings on the third Wednesday of every month at the Morro Bay Community Center\, 1001 Kennedy Way\, and the format is simple and friendly: a potluck at noon\, a dance lesson at 12:30\, and live music from 1:30 to 3 PM. \n\n\n\n\nLesson is Bolero\, taught by CCDC president and longtime local dance instructor Shari Fortino. Bolero is the slow\, romantic ballroom dance that originated in Cuba\, and it’s a generous choice for a mixed-experience room: easy enough for first-timers\, expressive enough that experienced dancers can find new texture in it. \n\n\n\n\nThe band is Morro Bay Faction\, one of the local groups CCDC pulls into regular rotation. Ten dollars at the door gets you the lesson\, the band\, and the dance floor. \n\n\n\n\nBring a dish for the potluck if you can. The community plates out at noon\, conversation runs through the meal\, and the lesson rolls right into the band. If you’ve never danced socially before\, this is one of the friendliest rooms on the Central Coast to start in. Costume optional\, theme welcomed. \n\n\n\n\nPlan your afternoon at hellomorrobay.com/events/.

The tour is the work of artists building their own routing\, hitting independent venues that book outside the usual circuit\, and Morro Bay being on that map says something about The Siren’s reputation. Hip-hop heads on the Central Coast tend to know each other\, and nights like this one are where that crowd shows up. \nThe Siren is the kind of room where this style of show works best. Main Street venue\, small floor\, sound that carries without losing the lyrics\, and a crowd that came to listen as much as move. The room sits at 900 Main in downtown Morro Bay\, a couple of blocks back from the Embarcadero and within easy walking distance of dinner spots up and down the street. \nTickets are $18 in advance through tixr.com. Table reservations through monte@thesirenmorrobay.com if you want a seat for the long bill. Doors open ahead of the headline set\, and arriving early is the safest move on a stacked night like this. \nFor more live shows and ticketed nights around Morro Bay this week\, see what’s on the event calendar.
