SUMMARY:Orange Crush Exhibit at Art Center Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:Orange Crush is on view at Art Center Morro Bay through Sunday\, June 22\, with members of the Morro Bay Art Association responding to a single color and concept with whatever it brings out of them.\nThe result is the kind of group show the Art Center does well: dozens of working local artists\, a wide mix of mediums\, and an organizing color that keeps a coherent thread running through the room. \nThe Art Center is in the unmistakable building at 835 Main Street\, the one with the giant Rock mural across the side. The Morro Bay Art Association has been programming exhibits and supporting working artists from this address since 1951\, making it one of the longest-running volunteer art organizations in the state. Worth knowing on the way in. \nOpen daily noon to four\, free admission. The shop in the front room rotates members’ jewelry\, ceramics\, cards\, and small works that don’t always make it into the main exhibits\, and is worth a slow look on the way out. \nIf you’ve been meaning to stop in\, the final week is the moment. The next exhibit\, Call of the Wild\, opens June 25. \nMark your calendar at hellomorrobay.com/events/. \n  \nphoto credit: https://www.artcentermorrobay.org/exhibits#xuOwqR

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Central Coast Dance Community Pirates and Mermaids Dance at Morro Bay Community Center
DESCRIPTION:The Wednesday afternoon edition of Morro Bay Dances drops anchor on June 17 with a Pirates and Mermaids theme.\nThe Central Coast Dance Community hosts these midday gatherings on the third Wednesday of every month at the Morro Bay Community Center\, 1001 Kennedy Way\, and the format is simple and friendly: a potluck at noon\, a dance lesson at 12:30\, and live music from 1:30 to 3 PM. \n\n\n\n\nLesson is Bolero\, taught by CCDC president and longtime local dance instructor Shari Fortino. Bolero is the slow\, romantic ballroom dance that originated in Cuba\, and it’s a generous choice for a mixed-experience room: easy enough for first-timers\, expressive enough that experienced dancers can find new texture in it. \n\n\n\n\nThe band is Morro Bay Faction\, one of the local groups CCDC pulls into regular rotation. Ten dollars at the door gets you the lesson\, the band\, and the dance floor. \n\n\n\n\nBring a dish for the potluck if you can. The community plates out at noon\, conversation runs through the meal\, and the lesson rolls right into the band. If you’ve never danced socially before\, this is one of the friendliest rooms on the Central Coast to start in. Costume optional\, theme welcomed. \n\n\n\n\nPlan your afternoon at hellomorrobay.com/events/.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Qwel and Nightwalker at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:The Divided Times Tour brings underground hip-hop to The Siren\nQwel and Nightwalker headline The Divided Times Tour at The Siren on a Wednesday at 7:30 PM\, pairing the Chicago underground wordsmith with New York boom-bap producer Nightwalker for a long bill of independent hip-hop. Asphate of Maxilla Blue\, MC Lyfe and Versa\, A.m. Early Morning\, Trippin and G\, and Gehrig Kniffen round out the night. \nA stacked underground hip-hop bill landing in a small Central Coast room is the kind of show that doesn’t happen often. The tour is the work of artists building their own routing\, hitting independent venues that book outside the usual circuit\, and Morro Bay being on that map says something about The Siren’s reputation. Hip-hop heads on the Central Coast tend to know each other\, and nights like this one are where that crowd shows up. \nThe Siren is the kind of room where this style of show works best. Main Street venue\, small floor\, sound that carries without losing the lyrics\, and a crowd that came to listen as much as move. The room sits at 900 Main in downtown Morro Bay\, a couple of blocks back from the Embarcadero and within easy walking distance of dinner spots up and down the street. \nTickets are $18 in advance through tixr.com. Table reservations through monte@thesirenmorrobay.com if you want a seat for the long bill. Doors open ahead of the headline set\, and arriving early is the safest move on a stacked night like this. \nFor more live shows and ticketed nights around Morro Bay this week\, see what’s on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Morro Bay Thursday Farmers' Market
DESCRIPTION:Every Thursday afternoon\, the parking lot at Spencer’s Fresh Markets fills with the SLO County Farmers Market Association’s midweek market.\nFarmers come from as far south as Goleta\, as far east as Delano\, and up from Salinas\, so the produce table runs deep: stone fruit and berries in summer\, citrus and greens in the cooler months\, plus flowers\, eggs\, and prepared food. It smells like the ocean and stocks like the valley. \nIt’s an easy stop\, right off Highway 1 at 2650 Main Street\, and it runs year-round. Bring a bag and cash for the vendors who prefer it. \nFor more markets\, tastings\, and good food around town\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Grapes & Hops by the Rock Benefiting Project Surf Camp
DESCRIPTION:Grapes & Hops by the Rock returns to Coleman Park on Thursday\, June 18\, for an evening of wine and ale tasting in one of the best waterfront spots in town\, with every ticket benefiting Morro Bay’s Project Surf Camp.\nFive to eight PM\, over 20 local wineries pour alongside six craft breweries\, food vendors serve bites worth lining up for\, and live music sets the vibe with Morro Rock in the background. \nThe Central Coast wine and craft beer scene punches well above its weight\, and an event like this is the easiest way to taste your way across it without driving up and down Highway 1. Most of the wineries pouring are family-run operations from Paso Robles\, Edna Valley\, and Arroyo Grande Valley. The breweries are the Central Coast craft brewers you’d want to find anyway. \nThe reason to come\, though\, is the cause. Project Surf Camp uses surfing and ocean activities to build self-confidence\, self-esteem\, and self-efficacy in individuals with special needs. It’s one of Morro Bay’s signature local nonprofits\, and the camps genuinely change lives. Buying a glass at Grapes & Hops is one of the better-feeling drink purchases you’ll make this year. \nTickets are $35 in advance\, $45 at the door. Coleman Park is at 101 Coleman Drive\, right at the base of Morro Rock with bay views in every direction. \n \nTo see what else is happening around town this week\, browse the calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: 80s Kids at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:80s Kids run a synthpop joyride at The Siren\nThe synthpop duo 80s Kids (Shannon Curtis and Jamie Hill) take The Siren on Thursday night\, working the era’s essential catalog: a-ha\, Erasure\, OMD\, New Order\, Depeche Mode\, and Pet Shop Boys\, with the synths up and the choruses earning their keep. Doors and dinner at 6:30 PM\, music at 7:30 PM. Anyone showing up in 80s gear walks out with a freebie from the merch table. \nSynthpop has been quietly working its way back into the touring rotation for the last few years\, and Thursday tribute nights at small-room venues have been part of where that revival actually lands. The 80s Kids show splits the difference between a sing-along crowd that knows every word and a younger audience finding the catalog for the first time. The duo format keeps it close to the source material; nothing gets buried under a full band production. \nThe Siren sits at 900 Main in downtown Morro Bay\, a small Main Street room that does well by a show like this: tight stage\, close crowd\, sound that gives the synth work room without losing the vocal. Most patrons book the night around dinner ahead of the set\, and the venue runs a full kitchen and bar through the show. \nTickets are $20 to $25 in advance through tixr.com. Table reservations through monte@thesirenmorrobay.com if you want guaranteed seating for a tribute crowd that tends to fill up. Parking spreads across Main Street and the back blocks. \nFor more live music\, tributes\, and theme nights coming up\, see the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: 🎶 Live Oak Music Festival\, Friday
DESCRIPTION:Live Oak opens at El Chorro with Friday afternoon and Neal Francis closing\nIn San Luis Obispo. The Live Oak Music Festival opens at El Chorro Regional Park on Friday\, the first day of the three-day KCBX Public Radio fundraiser that runs through Sunday. The festival starts at 1 PM after the morning load-in\, easing into the weekend with a Beer Garden set before the main programming builds across the afternoon and evening. El Chorro is the regional park midway between Morro Bay and downtown San Luis Obispo\, the same oak-shaded campground that holds the SLO Botanical Garden and Dairy Creek Golf Course\, about 15 minutes from town down Highway 1. \nFriday’s lineup walks from beergrass to honky-tonk through folk rock and Afro-Mexican American futurism\, all building toward a 9 PM headline slot at the KCBX Stage with Neal Francis. The Chicago-based funk\, soul\, and rock musician has been working a national festival circuit on the back of three studio albums and a heavy touring schedule\, and he closes Friday’s main programming with the kind of long-form keyboard-driven set the room has been waiting for since the gates opened. \nThe day starts with The Mother Corn Shuckers in the Beer Garden at 1 PM\, a seven-piece California Americana group with a serious touring catalog of their own. From there the afternoon runs through California Americana with Natalie Haskins\, folk rock with The Sam Chase and the Untraditional\, classic honky-tonk and country with Emily Nenni\, and beach pop and R&B with Emily Brimlow. SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: The Dirt at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:The Dirt brings 80s Sunset Strip glam rock to The Siren\nThe Dirt runs the biggest Sunset Strip hair-metal hits at The Siren on Friday night\, a glam-rock celebration with the leather\, the makeup\, the long hair\, and the catalog all delivered the way the genre demands. The set covers the #1 hits of the era in one big swing through Hollywood’s loudest decade. \nSunset Strip glam rock is a strange specific corner of music history to tribute\, and the bands that do it well lean into the visual presentation as hard as the playing. Motley Crue\, Poison\, Ratt\, Skid Row\, Guns N’ Roses\, the whole leather-and-spandex parade. The Dirt has built its show around that era specifically\, and the Friday-night small-room context lets the theatrics actually work the way they’re supposed to. \nFridays at The Siren tend to run hot anyway\, and the tribute crowd brings their own energy. The venue at 900 Main is a small Main Street room with a stage close enough to the floor that the band and the crowd basically become one act by the end of the first song. The Siren runs full dinner service and bar through the night\, with doors typically open well before the headline set. \nTickets are $15 to $18 in advance through tixr.com. Table reservations run $100 through monte@thesirenmorrobay.com for groups that want guaranteed seating. Parking is on Main Street and the back blocks\, and the rest of downtown Morro Bay is a short walk for pre-show or post-show stops. \nFor more live music\, tributes\, and Friday-night plans\, browse the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: 🎶 Live Oak Music Festival\, Saturday
DESCRIPTION:Live Oak Saturday runs 8 AM to past midnight with Brothers Comatose closing\nIn San Luis Obispo. Saturday is Live Oak’s longest day\, a full 16-hour stretch at El Chorro Regional Park running from morning Beer Garden singer-songwriter sets through reggae\, Afro-Brazilian samba\, Afro-Latin funk\, soul\, indie rock\, and Americana\, all building toward an 8:45 PM headline slot with The Brothers Comatose on the KCBX Stage. The San Francisco bluegrass band has been touring nationally for over a decade behind a catalog of original material that pulls from old-time\, country\, and rock\, and their headline set is the centerpiece of the festival’s middle day. \nThe day opens at 8 AM in the Beer Garden with Amalia Fleming\, then rolls into Electric Lavender at 9\, Dubwise Collective on reggae at the KCBX Stage at 10\, and SambaDá’s Afro-Brazilian set at 11:30. The afternoon spreads across all three stages: Renée Christine on solo cello and songwriting\, Carbon City Lights on indie rock (replacing a cancelled Greg Loiacono set)\, Big Mable and the Portholes in the Beer Garden\, and Mestizo Beat carrying Afro-Latin funk into the late afternoon at Stage Too. \nEvening on Saturday stacks the room. J and the Causeways open at 5 PM with soul and R&B on the main stage. Low Power Trio play Americana and Celtic at Stage Too. Jackie Venson\, the Austin-based guitarist whose catalog runs electro-funk through blues\, takes the KCBX Stage at 6:45 PM ahead of The Brothers Comatose. After the headliner\, J and the Causeways return for a late Stage Too set\, and Grambo carries the night past midnight as a late-night DJ set. \nFor Morro Bay readers planning Saturday\, El Chorro is about 15 minutes down Highway 1 from town. Saturday is the day where the parking lots fill earliest\, so arriving by midday gives the best shot at a spot if you’re a day ticket holder. The marine layer that hugs Morro Bay mornings tends to burn off before it reaches El Chorro inland\, so plan for warmer afternoon temperatures than the coast. Tickets are sold through my805tix.com with single-day\, full-festival\, and camping options. \nFor more live music and weekend plans around Morro Bay\, see what’s on the event calendar. \nSaturday Schedule\n\n8:00 AM Amalia Fleming (Beer Garden) – Singer-songwriter\n9:00 AM Electric Lavender (Beer Garden) – Soul\, Folk\, Rock\n10:00 AM Dubwise Collective (KCBX Stage) – Reggae\n11:30 AM SambaDá (KCBX Stage) – Afro-Brazilian\n1:00 PM Renée Christine (KCBX Stage) – Americana songwriter and cellist\n2:14 PM Carbon City Lights (Stage Too) – Heartfelt Indie-Rock\n2:15 PM Big Mable & the Portholes (Beer Garden)\n3:45 PM Mestizo Beat (Stage Too) – Afro-Latin Funk and Soul\n5:00 PM J & the Causeways (KCBX Stage) – Soul\, R&B\n6:00 PM Low Power Trio (Stage Too) – Americana and Celtic\n6:45 PM Jackie Venson (KCBX Stage) – Electro-Funk\, Soul\, R&B\, Blues\n8:45 PM The Brothers Comatose (KCBX Stage\, headliner) – Goldengrass\n10:30 PM J & the Causeways (Stage Too\, late set)\n11:59 PM Grambo (Stage Too\, late-night DJ\, runs past midnight)

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music Saturdays at High Tide Deli
DESCRIPTION:Free Saturday afternoons on the High Tide Deli patio\nHigh Tide Deli runs free live music on the patio every Saturday from noon to 2 PM\, the kind of low-key weekly slot that turns a sandwich-shop lunch into something you actually plan around. The lineup rotates\, the show is short and casual\, and the menu does the rest. No cover\, no reservations needed\, no big production. Just music and lunch on the patio at 500 Morro Bay Boulevard. \nHigh Tide is a Morro Bay favorite that sits at the downtown end of the Boulevard\, an indoor/outdoor cafe known for build-your-own sandwiches\, acai bowls\, smoothies\, and a serious coffee menu. The Turkey Bliss is a regular contender\, the avocado toast has a following\, and the build-your-own runs deep with options like Dutch Crunch rolls\, pesto mayo\, and the standard Morro Bay add-ons (bacon\, avocado\, jalapeno cheddar bread). The retail section of the cafe stocks local goods\, which makes the post-lunch browse part of the experience. \nThe patio is dog-friendly and family-friendly\, with shade across the seating area on most afternoons and the kind of casual stretch that lets the music play without becoming the whole event. The Saturday slot draws regulars and walk-ins in roughly equal measure. High Tide is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM\, and the music slot lines up neatly with the lunch rush. \nSpecific artists are not always announced in advance. High Tide drops weekend lineup updates on their Instagram (@hightidemorrobay) ahead of the show\, so check there for who’s playing this Saturday. \nFor more free shows\, weekend lunch plans\, and live music around the bay\, see the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Breanna Rosas at Top Dog Coffee Bar
DESCRIPTION:Free Saturday afternoon music in the back garden at Top Dog Coffee Bar\nOn Main Street in Morro Bay. Top Dog Coffee Bar is adding free live music to its Saturday afternoons\, and local musician Breanna Rosas plays the back garden this Saturday\, June 20\, starting at 2 PM. The set runs roughly two hours in the garden space behind the coffee bar\, an easygoing way to stretch out a Saturday downtown with a coffee in hand and no cover charge. \nThe timing lines up with the Main Street farmers market\, which runs its certified-market stretch on Main between 2:30 and 5:30 PM\, so the afternoon turns into a natural pairing: browse the produce stands and vendors\, then drift over to the Top Dog garden for the music\, or do it the other way around. It’s the kind of low-key\, walkable downtown afternoon that the stretch of Main Street does well. \nTop Dog’s back garden is a tucked-away patio space\, a relaxed spot for an acoustic set away from the Main Street sidewalk. The coffee bar runs its full menu through the afternoon\, so coffee\, espresso drinks\, and the usual lineup are all on hand while the music plays. Family-friendly and dog-friendly\, fitting for a place named Top Dog. \nFor more live music and weekend happenings around the bay\, see what’s on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: FaultLine Band at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:A free Saturday afternoon with FaultLine Band at The Siren\nFaultLine Band drives a free Saturday afternoon set at The Siren from 2 PM\, running country\, rock\, and blues from the 60s through today. The band comes up from Coalinga\, one of the Central Valley towns whose families have long fed Morro Bay’s summer crowd. The Central Valley to Morro Bay run is one of the oldest beach-weekend traditions on the Central Coast\, and FaultLine’s catalog tracks it. \nFree afternoon shows at The Siren run differently than the ticketed evening sets. The room opens up earlier\, the kitchen is on a different rhythm\, the crowd skews to walk-ins working their way through downtown on a Saturday. The 2 to 5 PM window pairs well with whatever else is going on around town\, and the casual format means kids and dogs are part of the mix in a way that doesn’t happen at the 8 PM tribute nights. \nThe venue at 900 Main on Main Street is a small room that does well by this format. Country and rock cover material works in a free-show context the way ticketed niche tributes can’t; the catalog is broad enough that walking in cold still works. The band runs hits across decades that most of the crowd will recognize without needing a setlist. \nNo cover at the door. Cold beer\, hot food\, full bar. Pair it with a morning at Morro Rock or the Saturday Main Street Farmers Market\, both within easy walking distance\, and the Messer Chups ticketed show at 8 PM if you want to make a full day of it at The Siren. \nFor more live music and free shows around the bay this weekend\, see the event calendar.

SUMMARY:The Cauldron: Summer Solstice Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:A Summer Solstice fire ceremony and community potluck at the Goddess Temple\nOn Morro Bay Boulevard. The Cauldron is a monthly community ceremony at the Goddess Temple Central Coast\, and the June gathering lands on the Summer Solstice with a fire ceremony and shared potluck on Saturday evening\, June 20\, from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. The solstice edition moves to Saturday night specifically to mark the longest day of the year\, with a theme the temple is calling Celebration of the Light. \nThe gathering centers on a cauldron fire ceremony built around the five elements of earth\, air\, fire\, water\, and ether. Participants step into the circle and bring offerings to place into the cauldron\, with the evening framed as a chance to release what no longer serves and call in love and unity\, individually and as a community. It’s a participatory evening rather than a performance\, led by Senior Priestess and Temple Founder Charlotte Eléa. \nThis is an outdoor evening\, so layers are the move once the sun drops and the marine air settles in. Light snacks are provided\, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share for the potluck. You’re welcome to bring a drum or rattle\, your own offerings for the fire\, and songs or chants to add to the circle. The whole family is welcome\, all ages. \nThe event is free of charge\, with donations gratefully received. RSVP through my805tix.com so the temple can plan for numbers. The Goddess Temple sits right on Morro Bay Boulevard in the heart of downtown\, an easy walk from the rest of the evening’s options nearby. \nFor more community gatherings and seasonal events around town\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Messer Chups at The Siren
DESCRIPTION:Messer Chups brings dark surf and rockabilly from Russia to The Siren\nMesser Chups play The Siren on a Saturday night\, the Russian surf-rockabilly outfit that blends vintage Russian melodies\, theremin\, and horror-movie atmosphere into one of the more unusual touring acts to land at a small-room venue on the Central Coast. Fans of The Cramps\, vintage surf records\, and spaghetti-western soundtracks land in the right room. \nInternational touring bands at small Central Coast venues are an event in themselves. Most acts at this scale loop California through the Bay Area and LA without stopping between the two\, and a Morro Bay date means The Siren put in the work to land the show. Messer Chups have been on a long-running international circuit and are known for a stage presentation that runs as much theater as concert\, including the silver theremin work and the era-appropriate guitar tones. \nThe Siren is a downtown Morro Bay live-music room at 900 Main with a layout built for an act like this: tight stage\, close floor\, sound that gives the theremin work and the reverb-soaked guitar enough space to land. The room serves dinner and runs a full bar through the night\, and the Main Street neighborhood is one of the easier downtown stretches to spend the evening before and after a show. \nTickets are $20 to $25 in advance through tixr.com. Limited table reservations through monte@thesirenmorrobay.com. The Saturday afternoon free show with FaultLine Band wraps at 5 PM\, so showing up for both is the move if you want to make a full day of it at The Siren. \nFor more live music and Saturday-night shows around the bay\, see the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: 🎶 Live Oak Music Festival\, Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Live Oak closes with a Sunday blues finale from Charlie Musselwhite and GA-20\nIn San Luis Obispo. Sunday closes the Live Oak Music Festival at El Chorro Regional Park with a blues-heavy programming day building toward a 7 PM headline set from Charlie Musselwhite and GA-20 on the KCBX Stage. The pairing teams the Mississippi-born harmonica legend and Grammy-winning blues player with the Boston blues trio GA-20\, whose stripped-down two-guitar-and-drums catalog has built them serious touring credibility over the last several years. The two have an album out together\, and Sunday’s headline slot is one of the more anticipated blues bills the Central Coast has hosted this year. \nThe day opens at 8 AM in the Beer Garden with Nico Larson and Dan Curcio\, the songwriters from Próxima Parada and Moonshiner Collective playing a stripped-down duo set. Renée Christine returns at 9 AM. From there the day runs heavy on bluegrass and Americana: B and the Hive at 10\, Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band at 11:30\, and Slap Dragon at 1 PM working their unusual bluegrass-disco-R&B blend on the main stage. Marty O’Reilly brings folk-soul-blues to the Beer Garden at 2:15. \nThe Cheeseballs play a Stage Too set on Sunday at 2:15\, the same Bay Area dance band that hits The Siren in Morro Bay on July 31. Sunday afternoon stacks Parlor Greens with soul-jazz and funk at 3:30\, then Uncle Lucius bring southern rock\, country\, and blues to the main stage at 5 PM. Charlie Musselwhite and GA-20 close out the festival from 7 to 8:30 PM\, after which the gates close\, the campers pack up\, and El Chorro returns to its weekday regional-park rhythm. \nSunday is the festival’s shortest day\, wrapping by 8:30 PM\, and it’s the easiest day to attend as a Morro Bay day-tripper without committing to the camping side of the experience. Highway 1 traffic out of El Chorro headed back to town is usually manageable in the post-headliner stretch. Service dogs only\, no pets. Day tickets are sold through my805tix.com. \nFor more live music and weekend plans around the bay\, see the event calendar. \nSunday Schedule\n\n8:00 AM Nico Larson & Dan Curcio (Beer Garden) – members of Próxima Parada and Moonshiner Collective\n9:00 AM Renée Christine (Beer Garden) – Americana songwriter and cellist\n10:00 AM B & the Hive (KCBX Stage) – Alt Rock and Indie Pop\n11:30 AM Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band (KCBX Stage) – Bluegrass\n1:00 PM Slap Dragon (KCBX Stage) – Bluegrass\, Disco\, R&B\n2:15 PM The Cheeseballs (Stage Too) – Party Band\n2:15 PM Marty O’Reilly (Beer Garden) – Folk-Soul-Blues\n3:30 PM Parlor Greens (Stage Too) – Soul-Jazz\, Funk\n5:00 PM Uncle Lucius (KCBX Stage) – Southern Rock\, Country\, Blues\n7:00 PM Charlie Musselwhite & GA-20 (KCBX Stage\, headliner) – Blues
