SUMMARY:🍿 Monday Special: Speara / Of Marshes & Morros at the Bay Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Maritime Museum presents Speara and Of Marshes & Morros\, two ocean films with one of them set in our own estuary.\nThe Morro Bay Maritime Museum takes over the Monday Special for a double bill of short films about living beside the ocean and answering for it: Speara follows a worldwide journey of communing with the sea through spearfishing\, and Of Marshes & Morros tells a local story of advocacy and conservation in the estuary in our very backyard. For a town whose marsh\, morros\, and working water are the whole point\, half this program is quite literally about home. Ticket sales benefit the Maritime Museum\, with special support from the Goethe Institute in Los Angeles\, and advance tickets are sold at the museum itself\, a short walk down the Embarcadero from the theater\, which is about the most on-message ticket counter a fundraiser could ask for. \nWhere: Bay Theatre\, 464 Morro Bay Blvd\, Morro Bay\nWhen: Monday\, October 12\, 2026; doors 5:00 PM\, films 5:30 PM\, one showing only\nWho: Morro Bay Maritime Museum\, Bay Theatre Monday Specials series\nWhy: Proceeds benefit the Morro Bay Maritime Museum\nCost: $15\nGood to know: Advance tickets are sold in person at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum\, 1210 Embarcadero; no online ticketing for this one \nMore Information \nWatch the estuary on screen Monday\, then walk its edge Tuesday; both live on the full Morro Bay events calendar.

SUMMARY:🍿 Monday Special: Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Bay Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Bay Theatre screens Raiders of the Lost Ark as a one-night benefit for the French Hospital Volunteers Guild.\nThe French Hospital Volunteers Guild presents the one that started it all: Spielberg’s 1981 classic\, Harrison Ford’s whip\, the boulder\, the face-melting finale\, and John Williams setting the bar for every blockbuster score since. Forty-five years on\, Raiders remains the most rewatchable adventure movie ever made\, and it plays completely differently with a crowd on a big screen than it ever will at home. One showing only\, with ticket proceeds supporting the Guild’s work. SUMMARY:Rock the Waterfront
DESCRIPTION:The Maritime Museum’s fall fundraiser gathers the waterfront community at the Yacht Club\nOn the Morro Bay Embarcadero. Rock the Waterfront is the Morro Bay Maritime Museum’s annual fall fundraiser\, returning to the Morro Bay Yacht Club on Saturday\, September 19 from 5:30 to 8 PM. The evening pulls together museum supporters\, community members\, local businesses\, and friends of the working waterfront for a relaxed gathering overlooking the bay\, the kind of night where the harbor itself is the backdrop and the conversation runs to boats. \nThe format is easy and social: heavy hors d’oeuvres\, no-host cocktails\, music\, and a silent auction stocked with local experiences\, gifts\, and coastal-themed packages. The auction leans into what the Central Coast does well\, food and wine\, lodging\, tours\, recreation\, and one-off local experiences\, so the bidding tends to be as much fun as the browsing. September on the Embarcadero is a good bet for weather\, too\, right in the stretch that locals know as the warmest\, clearest part of the coastal year. \nProceeds support the Maritime Museum’s mission of keeping maritime history\, science\, and technology accessible\, funding exhibits\, preservation work\, public programs\, and family-friendly educational activities. That work is visible right down the Embarcadero at the museum’s home at 1210 Embarcadero\, where the collection includes the tugboat Alma\, the Avalon\, the Spindrift\, and a historic rescue boat\, all free to visit seven days a week. \nTickets are available through the museum’s site. Local businesses and individuals interested in event sponsorships or silent auction donations can reach the museum at info@morrobaymaritime.org. For more harbor happenings\, fundraisers\, and community events around the bay this fall\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🍿 Monday Special: Stage Door at the Bay Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Bay Theatre screens the 1937 classic Stage Door as a one-night benefit for By the Sea Productions.\nGregory La Cava’s Stage Door is one of the fastest-talking films of its era: a New York boarding house full of aspiring actresses elbowing each other toward the spotlight\, with Katharine Hepburn and Ginger Rogers leading the ensemble and a young Lucille Ball stealing scenes years before television made her a household name. Nearly ninety years on\, the dialogue still lands\, which makes it the right fundraiser for By the Sea Productions\, the company that keeps working actors on a local stage. \nWhere: Bay Theatre\, 464 Morro Bay Blvd\, Morro Bay\nWhen: Monday\, September 14\, 2026; doors 4:30 PM\, film 5:30 PM\nWho: Bay Theatre Monday Specials series\nWhy: Proceeds benefit By the Sea Productions\, Morro Bay’s community theater company\nCost: $25\nGood to know: Doors open a full hour early; beer and wine available for purchase \nGet Tickets \n \n  \n \nStage and screen keep each other company all month downtown; the rest of the bill is posted on the Morro Bay events calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: 33rd Annual Pinedorado 5K Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:The Pinedorado 5K Fun Run opens Cambria’s Labor Day weekend\, and Morro Bay always shows up for it.\nCambria’s Pinedorado weekend starts with running shoes: the 5K Fun Run goes off Saturday morning before the parade takes Main Street\, with proceeds supporting Coast Union High School athletics. It’s a genuine community run\, walkers welcome\, kids welcome\, and enough Morro Bay entries every year that the finish line has a distinctly bay-side accent. Run it\, then stay for the parade\, the Warbird flyover\, and the Pinedorado grounds; it’s the Central Coast’s best excuse for a Saturday up Highway 1. \nWhere: Coast Union High School\, Cambria\nWhen: Saturday\, September 5\, 2026\, morning; on-site registration opens ahead of the start\nWhy: Proceeds benefit Coast Union High School athletics \nMore Information \nStart the holiday weekend at a Cambria start line\, then bring the rest of it home; everything happening on this side of the hill is on the Morro Bay events calendar.

SUMMARY:Casino Night Luau & Silent Auction
DESCRIPTION:A pirate-luau casino night raises funds for Morro Bay Pirates football\nIn Morro Bay. The Casino Night Luau and Silent Auction takes over the Morro Bay Community Center on Saturday\, August 15\, from 5 to 10 PM\, a fundraiser for Morro Bay High School football and boosters ahead of the 2026-27 season. The night runs a pirate-meets-tiki theme across live casino games\, a tri-tip barbecue\, an open bar\, and a silent auction\, turning the community center into a one-night casino floor for a good local cause. \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nThe gaming is the centerpiece: live poker\, blackjack\, craps\, and more\, dealt all evening for players of every experience level. For serious card players\, a Texas Hold’em tournament runs from 10 AM to 5 PM with a $120 buy-in\, feeding into the evening’s main event. None of it is for real money\, of course; this is a fundraiser\, so the stakes are bragging rights and the cause rather than your bank account. \nBeyond the tables\, the tri-tip barbecue and open bar keep the night fed and watered\, and the silent auction gives everyone a reason to keep circling back to the bid sheets. Tickets are $75 per person or $500 for a table of eight\, with all proceeds going directly to Morro Bay High School football and the boosters who keep the program running. It is the kind of community fundraiser where the whole town turns out\, and the football families do the heavy lifting. \n \nFor more community fundraisers and events around the bay this summer\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Western Monarch Butterflies: Protecting Our Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:A monarch documentary and community conversation come to the Bay Theatre\nOn Morro Bay Boulevard. The Central Coast State Parks Association presents a special screening of Western Monarch Butterflies: Protecting Our Pollinators at the Bay Theatre on Monday\, August 10\, with doors at 5 PM and the film at 5:30. Directed by Ian A. Nelson\, the documentary follows the western monarch’s perilous annual migration from the western slopes of the Rockies to the California coast\, one of the most astonishing feats in nature\, made on wings you could crush between two fingers. \nThe story it tells is urgent. Western monarch numbers once ran into the millions; in just a few decades they have dwindled to a fraction of that\, a decline scientists read as a warning about pollinator health and the ecosystems that depend on it. But the film is not only a lament. It follows communities across the western United States restoring wild and urban habitat alike\, making the case that anyone can be a conservationist and that what helps monarchs helps a whole range of native pollinators. \nThis lands close to home. Morro Bay sits on the monarchs’ overwintering map\, with clusters gathering in the eucalyptus and cypress from roughly October through February at Morro Bay State Park\, and at Sweet Springs and the Monarch Grove Natural Area across the back bay in Los Osos. Watching a film about the migration in a town the butterflies actually visit gives the subject a weight it would not have anywhere inland. \nThe evening opens with a short CCSPA film introducing the association’s work supporting the ten state parks of San Luis Obispo County through conservation\, education\, and expanded public access\, and the screening is followed by a Q&A\, community discussion\, and reception. Tickets are $18. For more wildlife programs\, films\, and community events around the bay\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: Kindness\, An Art Show at Casa Ramos Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Casa Ramos Art Gallery presents Kindness\nIn Los Osos\, across the back bay. Casa Ramos Art Gallery presents Kindness\, a one-day art show on Sunday\, August 2 from 1 to 5 PM at 1034 Los Osos Valley Road. The single-afternoon format makes it more happening than exhibit: four hours to see the work\, meet the artists\, and take in a themed show built around the most disarming prompt a gallery can hang. \nOne-day shows carry a certain urgency that month-long runs do not\, and they tend to draw the artists themselves into the room\, which turns viewing into conversation. A theme like Kindness invites range\, portraiture\, abstraction\, community pieces\, and the intimate scale of a Los Osos gallery suits work meant to be discussed rather than merely observed. \nThe gallery sits on Los Osos Valley Road\, about 15 minutes around the bay from Morro Bay\, and the Sunday-afternoon window pairs easily with a back-bay loop: the show\, a walk at Sweet Springs or the Elfin Forest\, and dinner back on the Morro Bay side. Admission details were not posted; gallery shows of this kind are typically free\, but check ahead. The back-bay art scene runs on rooms exactly like this one\, and showing up is how it keeps running. \nCasa Ramos Art Gallery has partnered with the Estero Bay Kindness Coalition for this special event. Forty percent of all gallery sales during the show will benefit the Coalition’s efforts to provide food assistance to families and individuals in Morro Bay and Los Osos. \nFor more art shows and Nearby Happenings around the estuary\, see what is on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:The Blues Brothers: Fundraiser Screening for The Rock
DESCRIPTION:A Blues Brothers screening at the Bay Theatre benefits The Rock Community Radio\nOn Morro Bay Boulevard. The Rock Community Radio hosts a fundraiser screening of the cult classic The Blues Brothers at the historic Bay Theatre on Monday\, July 20. Doors open at 5 PM and the film rolls at 6 PM\, a big-screen showing of the 1980 musical comedy with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood on their mission from God. The night raises funds for the volunteer-powered community station\, with all proceeds going directly to its day-to-day operations and programming. \nThis is a screening built as an event\, not just a movie. Firestone Walker Brewing Company pours award-winning craft beer\, and Symbiosis Wines brings locally produced selections\, turning the Bay Theatre lobby into a proper night out. Before the film\, there’s a costume contest: dress in your best black suit\, fedora\, and sunglasses\, and prizes go to the top Jake and Elwood lookalikes\, along with the most creative film-inspired outfits. Showing up in costume is half the fun and gives the whole room the Blues Brothers spirit. \nThe Bay Theatre is the single-screen downtown movie house on Morro Bay Boulevard\, a community-minded venue that runs nonprofit fundraiser screenings and partnered events alongside its regular programming. It’s a fitting home for a community radio benefit. The Rock broadcasts as a non-commercial\, listener-supported station at 97.3 FM in Morro Bay and 107.9 FM in Paso Robles\, filling the kind of independent-music and local-programming niche that mainstream radio tends to skip. \nDoors at 5\, film at 6\, costume contest just before the screening. Grab a beer or a glass of wine\, dress the part\, and support local radio for the night. For more film nights\, fundraisers\, and community happenings around the bay\, see what’s on the event calendar. \nGET TICKETS HERE \nBUY TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:Taco Temple 4th of July Beer Fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity
DESCRIPTION:Taco Temple pours for a cause this 4th of July with a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser\nIn North Morro Bay. Taco Temple is turning Independence Day into a give-back day\, donating one dollar from every beer it sells on Saturday\, July 4 to Habitat for Humanity. The fundraiser runs all day\, from open until the 8 PM close\, so any beer you order with your lunch\, your afternoon\, or your early dinner puts a dollar toward building homes for local families. It is an easy way to fold a little good into a holiday already built around food\, sun\, and time with people you like. \nTaco Temple is the North Morro Bay institution at 2680 Main Street\, the kind of unpretentious\, fish-forward spot where the line out the door is its own recommendation. The menu leans on fresh local seafood and oversized plates\, and the beer list is deep enough that a dollar-per-pour fundraiser adds up fast over a busy holiday. Bring a group\, order another round\, and the cause benefits along with your afternoon. \nHabitat for Humanity works to build and repair homes for families across San Luis Obispo County\, and a restaurant fundraiser like this one is the kind of low-key local support that keeps that work going. There is no ticket and no cover\, just regular service with a charitable twist: show up\, eat well\, have a beer\, and a piece of it goes to a good place. \nThe 4th of July is one of Morro Bay’s busiest days\, so expect a crowd and plan for a wait at peak hours. For more holiday happenings and community events around the bay this weekend\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Grapes & Hops by the Rock Benefiting Project Surf Camp
DESCRIPTION:Grapes & Hops by the Rock returns to Coleman Park on Thursday\, June 18\, for an evening of wine and ale tasting in one of the best waterfront spots in town\, with every ticket benefiting Morro Bay’s Project Surf Camp.\nFive to eight PM\, over 20 local wineries pour alongside six craft breweries\, food vendors serve bites worth lining up for\, and live music sets the vibe with Morro Rock in the background. \nThe Central Coast wine and craft beer scene punches well above its weight\, and an event like this is the easiest way to taste your way across it without driving up and down Highway 1. Most of the wineries pouring are family-run operations from Paso Robles\, Edna Valley\, and Arroyo Grande Valley. The breweries are the Central Coast craft brewers you’d want to find anyway. \nThe reason to come\, though\, is the cause. Project Surf Camp uses surfing and ocean activities to build self-confidence\, self-esteem\, and self-efficacy in individuals with special needs. It’s one of Morro Bay’s signature local nonprofits\, and the camps genuinely change lives. Buying a glass at Grapes & Hops is one of the better-feeling drink purchases you’ll make this year. \nTickets are $35 in advance\, $45 at the door. Coleman Park is at 101 Coleman Drive\, right at the base of Morro Rock with bay views in every direction. \n \nTo see what else is happening around town this week\, browse the calendar.

SUMMARY:Movement for Life Summer Barbecue Benefiting Project Surf Camp
DESCRIPTION:Movement for Life Physical Therapy opens its Morro Bay parking lot for an annual summer barbecue on Saturday\, June 6\, with every dollar raised going to Project Surf Camp.\nThe afternoon runs from noon to 4 PM at the clinic at 890 Shasta Avenue in North Morro Bay. Tri-tip BBQ\, refreshments\, community connection\, and the chance to drop off any new or used wetsuits you’re not using anymore (Project Surf Camp will put them to work). \nProject Surf Camp is a local Morro Bay nonprofit that uses surfing\, the beach\, and other ocean activities as an educational modality to build self-confidence\, self-esteem\, and self-efficacy in individuals with special needs. The camps are genuinely transformative for participants and their families\, and Movement for Life has hosted this fundraiser for them annually. \nSuggested donation is $15 for the BBQ. Beer\, wine\, and prize tickets are additional. Donations of any size welcome. \nQuestions: (805) 772-4325. \n \nThe full week of Morro Bay events is on the HelloMorroBay calendar.
