SUMMARY:🎶 Music by the Rock: The White Caps at the South T-Pier
DESCRIPTION:The White Caps return to the T-Pier for a second Music by the Rock morning\nOn the Morro Bay waterfront. The Morro Bay White Caps bring their Music by the Rock series back to the South T-Pier on Saturday\, August 29 at 11 AM\, another free open-air concert from the town’s own community band on its home stage. The formula does not need changing: volunteer musicians\, crowd-pleasing concert band favorites\, and Morro Rock standing over the whole scene while the harbor goes about its Saturday. \nThe late-August date lands at the front edge of the coast’s warmest stretch\, when the mornings clear early and the waterfront is at its best\, so this one is a good bet for the full blue-sky version of the T-Pier concert experience. Community band concerts have a particular charm that polished stages cannot fake: neighbors playing for neighbors\, kids dancing at the front\, and a set list built to send everyone off humming. \nThe concert is free with no tickets or reservations\, and a folding chair or a spot on the rail is all the setup required. It pairs naturally with the rest of a waterfront Saturday\, and the commercial fleet tied up alongside the pier is its own show between numbers. Musicians curious about joining the band can reach the White Caps at mbwhitecaps@gmail.com or follow them on Facebook for performance reminders. \nFor more free concerts and things to do on the water\, see what is happening on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🍿 Monday Special: Bight Film Festival at the Bay Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Bight Film Festival takes over the Bay Theatre for a Monday\nIn downtown Morro Bay. The Bay Theatre’s Monday Specials series hosts the Bight Film Festival on Monday\, August 24 at 5:30 PM\, doors at 5:00\, a festival-format evening in place of the usual single classic. The Bight festival centers ocean and coastal films\, which lands about as naturally in Morro Bay as programming can: a theatre four blocks from a working harbor\, screening films about the water everyone in the room lives beside. \nFestival nights run differently from the series’ classic-film Mondays\, typically a curated program of shorts or features with the filmmakers and partner organizations in the mix\, so check the show page for this edition’s program\, admission\, and beneficiary details before heading down. \nThe Bay Theatre is Morro Bay’s single-screen downtown movie house at 464 Morro Bay Blvd\, a block off the Embarcadero\, where a night at the movies still comes with a real marquee and walkable dinner options on either side of the show. The theatre is closed Thursdays. The Monday Specials slot keeps the festival accessible: early doors\, early start\, and the whole program wrapped in time for a late dinner downtown. \nFor the rest of the Monday Specials and more film around the bay\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Casino Night Luau & Silent Auction
DESCRIPTION:A pirate-luau casino night raises funds for Morro Bay Pirates football\nIn Morro Bay. The Casino Night Luau and Silent Auction takes over the Morro Bay Community Center on Saturday\, August 15\, from 5 to 10 PM\, a fundraiser for Morro Bay High School football and boosters ahead of the 2026-27 season. The night runs a pirate-meets-tiki theme across live casino games\, a tri-tip barbecue\, an open bar\, and a silent auction\, turning the community center into a one-night casino floor for a good local cause. \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nThe gaming is the centerpiece: live poker\, blackjack\, craps\, and more\, dealt all evening for players of every experience level. For serious card players\, a Texas Hold’em tournament runs from 10 AM to 5 PM with a $120 buy-in\, feeding into the evening’s main event. None of it is for real money\, of course; this is a fundraiser\, so the stakes are bragging rights and the cause rather than your bank account. \nBeyond the tables\, the tri-tip barbecue and open bar keep the night fed and watered\, and the silent auction gives everyone a reason to keep circling back to the bid sheets. Tickets are $75 per person or $500 for a table of eight\, with all proceeds going directly to Morro Bay High School football and the boosters who keep the program running. It is the kind of community fundraiser where the whole town turns out\, and the football families do the heavy lifting. \n \nFor more community fundraisers and events around the bay this summer\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: Sweet Springs Habitat Walk with Morro Coast Audubon Society
DESCRIPTION:Audubon walks the habitats of Sweet Springs at low tide\nIn Los Osos\, across the back bay. Morro Coast Audubon Society leads a habitat walk through Sweet Springs Nature Preserve on Saturday\, August 15 from 9 to 11 AM\, with Faylla Chapman covering the preserve’s history and the plant communities that hold its bird habitat together. The route ends at the viewing platform over the back bay\, timed for low tide\, when the mudflats fill with feeding shorebirds and the platform becomes the best seat on the estuary. \nSweet Springs is the back bay’s pocket jewel\, freshwater ponds under Monterey pines opening onto the tidal flats\, and a walk that explains how the pieces fit (the springs\, the plants\, the tides\, the birds) turns a pretty stroll into a working understanding of why this small preserve punches so far above its size. Chapman’s history-plus-habitat framing is exactly the right lens for it. \nThe walk is free but you must request to register through the event link; registration questions go to fieldtrips@morrocoastaudubon.org\, and Audubon’s summer trips have been filling fast\, so reaching out early is wise. Flat\, easy walking throughout\, with layers advised for the marine-layer morning and binoculars welcome but not required. Street parking on Ramona Avenue serves the preserve entrance directly. \nFor more guided walks and Nearby Happenings around the estuary\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Zongo Yachting Cup Race
DESCRIPTION:The Zongo Yachting Cup races down the coast from Morro Bay to Avila Beach\nStarting from the Morro Bay Yacht Club. The Zongo Yachting Cup runs its main race on Saturday\, August 15\, sending sailboats\, powerboats\, multihulls\, and even human-powered craft down the coast from Morro Bay to Avila Beach. Organized by the Morro Bay Yacht Club\, it is the biggest offshore boating event on the Central Coast\, open to all seaworthy vessels and capable skippers\, with classes for everything from PHRF sailboats to stand-up paddleboards. The start off the Morro Bay harbor entrance is the spectacle for anyone watching from shore. \nThe morning runs on a clear schedule. The Yacht Club opens at 8 AM for coffee and late registration\, the skippers meeting is at 9 AM\, all vessels are underway by 10\, and the race itself starts at 11 AM off the harbor entrance near the Rock. Boats then run the open coast south\, with a 5 PM cutoff: any vessel not finished by then is scored as did-not-finish. For shore-side viewers\, the stretch near Morro Rock and the harbor mouth gives the best look at the fleet getting underway. \nThe finish\, reception party\, and awards all happen down the coast in Port San Luis\, not in Morro Bay. The Zongo Cup Reception Party runs from 4 to 8 PM at Mersea’s on the Harford Pier\, with the awards ceremony at 6:30 PM. Racers and crews register through the Morro Bay Yacht Club ahead of time; this is a participation event for boaters rather than a ticketed spectator event\, though watching the start from the Embarcadero or the Rock is free and open to all. \nFor more harbor events and on-the-water happenings around the bay this summer\, see what is on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Zongo Yachting Cup Kickoff Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Zongo All-Stars launch the yachting cup with a free harborside concert\nOn the Morro Bay Embarcadero. The Zongo Yachting Cup kicks off with a Friday-evening launch party and free concert at the Morro Bay Yacht Club on August 14\, the public celebration ahead of the next day’s offshore race to Avila Beach. The Yacht Club is the organizing authority for the Cup\, the biggest offshore sailing event on the Central Coast\, and the Friday gathering is where boats and crews come together before the racing starts. The Zongo All-Stars\, an Afro-Latin dance band with a strong local following\, play the night and lend the event their name. \nThe launch party runs from 4 to 8 PM at the Yacht Club\, and the concert is the part that is open and fun for everyone\, sailor or not. The lower deck turns into a dance floor with the harbor and the Rock as the backdrop\, while racers check in through the day ahead of Saturday’s start. Founder Paul Irving plays trumpet in the band\, which tells you how tightly the music and the race are bound together in this event’s DNA. For anyone who just wants a great waterfront night\, this is one of the better free concerts of the summer. \nA pre-purchase dinner is usually available for those who want it\, served through the evening for a modest fee\, and meals tend to sell out so ordering ahead is wise. Dress for a Morro Bay evening on the water\, since it cools off once the sun drops behind the Rock. Parking on the Embarcadero is limited\, so arriving early or parking above the waterfront and walking down is the smart move. \nFor more harbor events and live music on the waterfront this summer\, see what is on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: Family Free Day: Scaly Safari at the SLO Botanical Garden
DESCRIPTION:The Botanical Garden waives admission for a Scaly Safari family day\nAt El Chorro\, over the grade from Morro Bay. The San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden hosts its almost-monthly Family Free Day on Sunday\, August 9 from 10 AM to 2 PM\, and August’s theme is Scaly Safari\, a celebration of the garden’s scalier residents. Garden admission is waived for the day\, the event is all ages\, and dogs on leash are welcome\, so the garden’s own advice applies: pack a picnic and stay a while. \nThe Children’s Garden runs crafts and educational activities on the reptile theme\, and the rest of the grounds are open to wander: the main Display Garden\, the Fire Safe garden\, and the hill hike up to the Human Sundial\, where kids become the gnomon and their shadow tells the time. The retail nursery is open for business too\, stocked with the garden’s self-propagated native plants suited to the Central Coast’s Mediterranean climate\, worth a browse for anyone rethinking a yard for the dry months. \nOne practical note from the garden: El Chorro Regional Park charges a $5 vehicle entry fee at the gate even on free-admission days\, and cash speeds up the line. The garden sits on Dairy Creek Road inside the park\, about 15 minutes from Morro Bay on Highway 1 toward San Luis Obispo\, an easy Sunday run for a morning that combines a picnic\, a hike\, and something genuinely educational without anyone noticing the education part. \nPlease note: there’s a $5 fee to enter El Chorro park. Having cash will speed up park entry! \nFor more family days and Nearby Happenings along the corridor\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:VSCO Photo Walk at Coleman Park
DESCRIPTION:VSCO hosts a golden-hour photo walk at the base of the Rock\nIn Morro Bay. The photo app VSCO hosts a free group photo walk starting at Coleman Park on Saturday\, August 8 from 6 to 8 PM\, with free registration on Eventbrite. The timing is the whole idea: the two-hour window lands squarely in golden hour\, when the light comes off the water\, the Rock holds the last of it\, and the stretch between the park and the harbor mouth becomes one of the most photogenic half-miles in California. \nPhoto walks work on a simple social premise\, a group of people who like making pictures wandering the same route\, trading angles and app tricks as they go\, and this one asks nothing beyond showing up: bring whatever camera you shoot with\, phone included\, since VSCO’s whole world is phone photography anyway. Between the Rock\, the otters\, the fleet heading in\, and the sandspit light\, the subject matter takes care of itself. \nColeman Park sits on Coleman Drive along the harbor route to the Rock\, with the beach and the harbor mouth all within frame-hunting distance. Free\, all levels welcome. \nFor more outdoor gatherings and golden-hour events around the bay\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:National Night Out at Cloisters Park
DESCRIPTION:Cloisters Park hosts a free evening of BBQ\, fire trucks\, and neighbors\nIn North Morro Bay. The Morro Bay Police Department and the City of Morro Bay host National Night Out at Cloisters Park on Tuesday\, August 4 from 5 to 7 PM\, a free community evening that joins over 38 million neighbors across 17\,000 communities nationwide. The idea behind the night is simple: get people out of their houses and into the same park\, meet the officers who work your streets\, meet the neighbors you wave at but have never talked to\, and let the kids climb on a fire truck. \nThe evening runs on the good stuff. Free BBQ\, games\, music\, raffle prizes\, and goodie bags\, plus police and fire on hand with emergency vehicles to walk through and safety demonstrations across the two hours. Community resource tables round it out\, so there is real information available alongside the hot dogs. It is genuinely built for families\, and the two-hour window makes it an easy add to a Tuesday evening rather than a whole-night commitment. \nCloisters Park is the North Morro Bay green space off Coral Avenue\, a wide open city park backed by wetland and dune\, with plenty of room to spread out and easy parking compared to anything down on the Embarcadero. It is a fitting spot for a neighborhood-focused evening\, tucked into the residential side of town rather than the visitor-facing waterfront. \nThe night is put together with support from a long list of local sponsors\, the sort of turnout that says something about how the town shows up for this one. Everything is free\, so just come. For more community events and family-friendly happenings around the bay this summer\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

DESCRIPTION:The White Caps play Music by the Rock on their home stage\, the South T-Pier\nOn the Morro Bay waterfront. The Morro Bay White Caps\, the town’s own community concert band\, open their Music by the Rock series on Saturday\, August 1 at 11 AM on the South T-Pier\, with guest artist Mitch Latting featured on the program. The concert is free\, and the setting is the whole point: the band sets up on the pier with Morro Rock filling the view behind them\, the harbor working on either side\, and the audience gathered in the open air. \nThe White Caps are volunteer musicians from around the bay playing uplifting concert band favorites\, marches\, standards\, and singalong-familiar tunes\, and the T-Pier is their home stage. A late-morning start puts the show right in the fog-lift window\, when the marine layer usually burns off and the Rock comes out of the gray on cue. A guest artist billing makes this opening date a touch more special than the standing series\, one more reason to catch this one. \nBring a folding chair or claim a spot along the rail\, and layer up: the waterfront at 11 AM can run ten degrees cooler than downtown until the sun does its work. The concert makes a natural anchor for a full Embarcadero Saturday\, music first\, then lunch on the waterfront with the whole afternoon ahead. Anyone who plays an instrument and feels the pull can reach the band at mbwhitecaps@gmail.com; community bands run on new members. \nFor more free music and waterfront happenings around the bay\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Comedy Night with Chris Cruz at The Nauti Anchor
DESCRIPTION:Chris Cruz headlines a free Friday comedy night at The Nauti Anchor.\nIn North Morro Bay. Comedy Night returns to The Nauti Anchor on Friday\, July 31\, with comedian Chris Cruz headlining an hour-long show from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Doors open at 6:30\, general admission is free\, and reserved VIP tables are available for purchase\, so the front of the room can be claimed ahead of time while everyone else rolls in on the house. \nCruz arrives with 14 years of stand-up behind him\, performing across the country with material drawn from his Latino upbringing and a healthy supply of relationship advice\, the kind of lived-in\, crowd-work-friendly set an hour-long bar show rewards. His resume includes The Haha Cafe\, The Well Comedy Club\, and Laughs Unlimited\, established comedy rooms that say a working comic has put in the miles. Fair warning per the venue: the material is mature and the show is 18 and over. \nThe Nauti Anchor has made the former Foghorn Brewhouse space at 2940 Main Street one of North Morro Bay’s reliable gathering spots\, and its monthly comedy nights have quickly become a fixture alongside the trivia and live music. The full kitchen and the taps run through the show\, doors at 6:30 give plenty of runway for dinner before the first joke\, and the one-hour format means the whole night wraps early enough to keep a Friday going afterward. No pets in the room\, though kids are welcome to play outside during the show. Arriving early is the honest advice\, since free comedy in a room this size fills fast. \nFor more comedy nights and free things to do around the bay\, see what is coming up at hellomorrobay.com/events/.

SUMMARY:Rock to Pier Run
DESCRIPTION:The Rock to Pier Run sends runners up the sand from the Rock to the Cayucos Pier\nFrom Morro Rock to the Cayucos Pier. The Brian Waterbury Memorial Rock to Pier Run sends runners up the open beach on Saturday\, July 18 at 8 AM\, the 56th running of one of the oldest beach races on the Central Coast. The course is a straight shot along the sand with the Rock at your back and the pier ahead\, tide and soft sand included\, which is exactly what makes it a different kind of race than a road 5K. It is a Morro Bay summer tradition as much as it is a competition. \nThe companion Rock’n Around the Pier Half Marathon\, now in its 12th year\, runs the same morning on an out-and-back course with a detour through Cloisters Park near mile 10.5. Between the two distances the morning draws everyone from serious half-marathoners to families walking the beach leg\, which gives the event its mix of race-day focus and community-morning ease. The finish at the Cayucos Pier puts you in a second beach town with the morning still ahead of you. \nThis is a point-to-point beach course\, so plan logistics in advance: most runners arrange a shuttle or a ride back to the start\, since you finish a full town up the coast from where you began. Register at runsignup.com\, where the price steps up after July 1\, so signing up early saves money. Wear shoes you do not mind getting sandy and wet\, and dress for a cool coastal morning that warms as the fog lifts. \nFor more beach runs\, community events\, and outdoor mornings around the bay this summer\, see what is on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:4th of July Family Fun Day at Tidelands Park
DESCRIPTION:The City of Morro Bay’s signature Independence Day celebration – and the 2026 edition is wrapped around America’s 250th anniversary.\nTidelands Park on the Embarcadero\, Saturday July 4\, from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM\, with live music\, a bike parade\, the kids’ carnival\, lawn games\, BBQ\, and the kind of community day that defines small-town California Fourth of Julys. \nSchedule: \n\n10:30 AM – 4th of July Bike Parade. Beginning at the Northside of the Morro Creek Pedestrian Bridge and ending at Tidelands Park. Deck out your bike in your patriotic best – motorized bikes and skateboards welcome\, prizes for the most patriotic\, the most creative\, and the most over-the-top.\n11:00 AM – Concert: Rosewood and Honey. Central Coast favorites Jenny\, Danny\, and Mike bring their signature acoustic harmonies to the Tidelands bandstand. Rosewood and Honey’s range runs from Crosby Stills & Nash to Kacey Musgraves to Fleetwood Mac to Coldplay to Dua Lipa\, all wrapped in vocal arrangements that are the band’s calling card. Their set closes with a national anthem by their own Jessy George.\n12:00 PM – Opening Flag Ceremony. The official Independence Day flag raising.\n12:15 PM – Hot Dog Eating Contest. A genuinely entertaining annual tradition.\n1:00 PM – Concert: Sound Investment. Local SLO-based dance band Sound Investment takes the stage – classic rock\, pop hits\, disco\, funk\, country\, Motown\, “Dance Music You Can Bank On.” Their setlist spans generations and their stage time is reliably the most crowded part of the bandstand lawn.\nAll day – Carnival and Bounce House. $5 wristbands per child cover unlimited play across the carnival games\, bounce house\, and lawn activities. Family-friendly games and contests run continuously through the afternoon.\nAll day – BBQ\, facepainting\, and lawn games. Sponsored in part by Gilligan’s Sandwich Shop and the Kiwanis Club of Morro Bay.\n\nThe carnival side is family-focused; the music side draws a broader crowd; the harbor sets the entire scene. Bring cash – food and drink vendors are cash-only. \nLooking for the Friday night portion? The 4th of July Weekend kicks off Friday July 3 with the Friday Night Festival at Tidelands Park – The Molly Ringwald Project at 6:00 PM and a drone show at 9:00 PM. And the Waterfront Market is running all weekend (Friday through Sunday) in the parking lot between Giovanni’s Fish Market and Stax Wine Bar. \nTo see everything happening across Morro Bay this holiday weekend\, browse the calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Morro Bay Community Dance Fest
DESCRIPTION:Morro Bay neighbors gather at Del Mar Park for a free afternoon of dance\, music\, and potluck\nAt Del Mar Park in north Morro Bay. The Morro Bay Community Dance Fest is a free Saturday afternoon event on June 27 built around live music\, a community potluck\, a collaborative mural project\, and a neighborly gathering on the park grounds from 3 PM to 7 PM. The fest is the kind of low-stakes summer happening that turns a regular city park into a four-hour block party\, with an outdoor dance floor\, shared food on long tables\, and a mural that everyone helps build through the afternoon. \nDel Mar Park sits along Ironwood Avenue in the north residential side of Morro Bay\, a city park with grass fields\, picnic areas\, and open space that the Recreation Department uses for community programming year-round. The grounds make for an easy-going festival setup with open sightlines to the music area\, shaded edges around the perimeter\, and plenty of room to spread out with a blanket or a low chair. \nThe musical lineup centers on The Surface Walkers playing an album release party with a live electronic set\, joined by DJ sets from Lunchbox\, Naboh\, and Shiny Object. The four-act bill keeps the dance energy going across the full four hours\, balancing live band performance with the deeper rotation of DJ programming for the afternoon stretch into early evening. \nBring a potluck dish to share\, an appetite for what your neighbors bring\, and something to add to the community mural being built collaboratively across the day. Tickets are free through my805tix.com but registering ahead helps the organizers plan. Family-friendly throughout\, with kids welcome on the dance floor or wherever the music pulls them. \nFor more summer events and live music around town\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:Morro Bay Marine Swap Meet
DESCRIPTION:The annual Morro Bay Marine Swap Meet returns on Saturday\, June 27\, from 8 AM to 1 PM.\nFree admission\, free to browse\, free parking (within reason: arrive early for the closest spots). The marine swap meet is exactly what the name promises: an outdoor flea market of boat gear\, fishing tackle\, dock and harbor equipment\, salvage\, parts\, and the kind of nautical odds and ends that only a working harbor town can put on a single lot. \nThis is part garage sale\, part flea market\, part Morro Bay maritime culture on display. Bring cash for the smaller sellers. Bring a list if you have specific gear in mind\, since the bigger items move fast. And bring patience because half the fun is just walking the rows and stumbling across a piece of brass hardware or a rod you didn’t know you needed. \nFree admission\, all ages welcome\, dog-friendly (leashed). Sellers and shoppers both turn out from across the Central Coast. \nFor more shows and events around town this weekend\, the HelloMorroBay calendar has the rest.

SUMMARY:The Cauldron: Summer Solstice Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:A Summer Solstice fire ceremony and community potluck at the Goddess Temple\nOn Morro Bay Boulevard. The Cauldron is a monthly community ceremony at the Goddess Temple Central Coast\, and the June gathering lands on the Summer Solstice with a fire ceremony and shared potluck on Saturday evening\, June 20\, from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. The solstice edition moves to Saturday night specifically to mark the longest day of the year\, with a theme the temple is calling Celebration of the Light. \nThe gathering centers on a cauldron fire ceremony built around the five elements of earth\, air\, fire\, water\, and ether. Participants step into the circle and bring offerings to place into the cauldron\, with the evening framed as a chance to release what no longer serves and call in love and unity\, individually and as a community. It’s a participatory evening rather than a performance\, led by Senior Priestess and Temple Founder Charlotte Eléa. \nThis is an outdoor evening\, so layers are the move once the sun drops and the marine air settles in. Light snacks are provided\, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share for the potluck. You’re welcome to bring a drum or rattle\, your own offerings for the fire\, and songs or chants to add to the circle. The whole family is welcome\, all ages. \nThe event is free of charge\, with donations gratefully received. RSVP through my805tix.com so the temple can plan for numbers. The Goddess Temple sits right on Morro Bay Boulevard in the heart of downtown\, an easy walk from the rest of the evening’s options nearby. \nFor more community gatherings and seasonal events around town\, see what’s coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🎶 Live Music: Central Coast Dance Community Pirates and Mermaids Dance at Morro Bay Community Center
DESCRIPTION:The Wednesday afternoon edition of Morro Bay Dances drops anchor on June 17 with a Pirates and Mermaids theme.\nThe Central Coast Dance Community hosts these midday gatherings on the third Wednesday of every month at the Morro Bay Community Center\, 1001 Kennedy Way\, and the format is simple and friendly: a potluck at noon\, a dance lesson at 12:30\, and live music from 1:30 to 3 PM. \n\n\n\n\nLesson is Bolero\, taught by CCDC president and longtime local dance instructor Shari Fortino. Bolero is the slow\, romantic ballroom dance that originated in Cuba\, and it’s a generous choice for a mixed-experience room: easy enough for first-timers\, expressive enough that experienced dancers can find new texture in it. \n\n\n\n\nThe band is Morro Bay Faction\, one of the local groups CCDC pulls into regular rotation. Ten dollars at the door gets you the lesson\, the band\, and the dance floor. \n\n\n\n\nBring a dish for the potluck if you can. The community plates out at noon\, conversation runs through the meal\, and the lesson rolls right into the band. If you’ve never danced socially before\, this is one of the friendliest rooms on the Central Coast to start in. Costume optional\, theme welcomed. \n\n\n\n\nPlan your afternoon at hellomorrobay.com/events/.
