SUMMARY:🍿 Sense & Sensibility at the Bay Theatre (evening showing)
DESCRIPTION:Sense & Sensibility takes the evening slot at the Bay Theatre in downtown Morro Bay.\nFocus Features and Working Title take a fresh run at Jane Austen with Georgia Oakley’s Sense & Sensibility\, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as the Dashwood sisters. This adaptation keeps its focus on the bond between the two romantically entangled sisters rather than on the men who orbit them\, which is the smartest possible way to make a two-hundred-year-old story feel current. Rated PG\, 2 hours 12 minutes\, and the longest run of the fall at nearly two weeks. The 7:00 show pairs with dinner on Main Street or the waterfront first; the Monday dark nights belong to the Monday Specials\, this run alongside Pan’s Labyrinth and Monty Python. \n \nWhere: Bay Theatre\, 464 Morro Bay Blvd\, Morro Bay\nWhen: Friday\, October 16 through Wednesday\, October 28; Friday\, Saturday\, Tuesday\, and Wednesday at 7:00 PM; no Sunday evening shows; dark Mondays and Thursdays\nCost: $10 \nMore Information \nTwo Dashwood sisters and a 7:00 curtain is a complete date night; what surrounds it is on the full Morro Bay events calendar.

SUMMARY:Love of Nature Exhibit at Art Center Morro Bay
DESCRIPTION:Love of Nature at Art Center Morro Bay\nArt Center Morro Bay hangs its fall exhibit\, Love of Nature\, from September 17 through November 2 at 835 Main St\, the downtown gallery with the Rock mural on its wall. The subject is the one every local lives inside and every visitor drives Highway 1 to find: the ocean\, the bay\, the marshes\, the mountains\, and the plants and wildlife of the Central Coast\, seen through the individual styles of the region’s artists. \nExpect familiar scenes rendered with personal feeling\, alongside imaginative and abstract takes that treat the coastline as a starting point rather than a postcard. The range is the point. One wall might hold the estuary at low tide in careful detail while the next abstracts the same water into color and motion\, and the show rewards moving slowly enough to notice how differently each artist answers the same landscape. In a fast-moving stretch of the year\, a room full of work about tidelines\, back-bay light\, and coastal wildlife is a standing invitation to slow down. \nAn opening reception runs Sunday\, September 21\, from 2 to 4 PM\, the best chance to meet the artists whose names hang beside the work. The Art Center has anchored this corner of Main Street since the Morro Bay Art Association formed in 1951\, still volunteer-run and still mounting a full slate of exhibits each year\, and a stop here pairs naturally with the galleries and shops within a couple of blocks. \nAutumn fills in fast around town; the rest of the season’s openings\, music\, and outings are gathered on the event calendar. \nImage: Ken Christensen

SUMMARY:🎨 Paint Nite: Sugar Skull Calavera at La Katrina
DESCRIPTION:Paint Nite takes over La Katrina with a create-your-own sugar skull calavera design\nOn the Morro Bay Embarcadero. Paint Nite returns to La Katrina on Thursday\, October 15 at 5:30 PM\, with this month’s guided painting\, a create-your-own sugar skull calavera design. Timed to the season\, the calavera project lets every painter design their own take on the Día de los Muertos icon\, which makes it the rare paint night where no two canvases in the room should match. Tickets are $45 through paintnite.com\, which covers all supplies\, canvas\, paint\, brushes\, and step-by-step instruction\, no experience needed. \nThe night is hosted by The Canvas Club\, the top-rated local Paint Nite team led by artist Michelle Ducasse\, who walks the room through the painting one step at a time while the margaritas and the kitchen at La Katrina handle the sip half of the equation. The create-your-own format gives this session more creative rope than the usual follow-along painting\, with the calavera’s traditional flourishes as the starting point and the rest up to you. \nLa Katrina sits at 500 Embarcadero in the heart of the waterfront\, and the vibrant cantina room makes a natural paint-night setting. The event is 21 and over per Paint Nite’s venue format\, and the monthly series has become a standing date-night and friends-night fixture\, with each month bringing a different painting\, so no two sessions repeat. \nFor more art nights and things to do around the bay\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.

SUMMARY:🍿 Monday Special: Speara / Of Marshes & Morros at the Bay Theatre
DESCRIPTION:The Maritime Museum presents Speara and Of Marshes & Morros\, two ocean films with one of them set in our own estuary.\nThe Morro Bay Maritime Museum takes over the Monday Special for a double bill of short films about living beside the ocean and answering for it: Speara follows a worldwide journey of communing with the sea through spearfishing\, and Of Marshes & Morros tells a local story of advocacy and conservation in the estuary in our very backyard. For a town whose marsh\, morros\, and working water are the whole point\, half this program is quite literally about home. Ticket sales benefit the Maritime Museum\, with special support from the Goethe Institute in Los Angeles\, and advance tickets are sold at the museum itself\, a short walk down the Embarcadero from the theater\, which is about the most on-message ticket counter a fundraiser could ask for. \nWhere: Bay Theatre\, 464 Morro Bay Blvd\, Morro Bay\nWhen: Monday\, October 12\, 2026; doors 5:00 PM\, films 5:30 PM\, one showing only\nWho: Morro Bay Maritime Museum\, Bay Theatre Monday Specials series\nWhy: Proceeds benefit the Morro Bay Maritime Museum\nCost: $15\nGood to know: Advance tickets are sold in person at the Morro Bay Maritime Museum\, 1210 Embarcadero; no online ticketing for this one \nMore Information \nWatch the estuary on screen Monday\, then walk its edge Tuesday; both live on the full Morro Bay events calendar.

SUMMARY:Nearby: 🎶 Live Music: Fort Vine at Schooners
DESCRIPTION:Fort Vine take the Saturday evening set at Schooners\nIn Cayucos\, up the coast. Fort Vine play the Saturday evening set at Schooners on October 10\, from 5 to 8 PM on the oceanfront patio above Cayucos Beach as part of the venue’s Beachside Live series. By October the summer crowds have thinned but the patio shows keep going\, and an autumn sunset set over the water has a quieter\, end-of-season feel that regulars come back for. \nSchooners runs live music on its beachfront patio through the weekend all season\, and this evening set is one the venue flags as a highlight. The patio sits a few steps from the Cayucos Pier\, the sand right there\, with a full bar and menu and all ages welcome. An October evening show means earlier sunsets and a cooler patio\, so a layer is worth bringing along. \nCayucos is about ten minutes up Highway 1 from Morro Bay\, an easy drive for a Saturday sunset by the water. Patio seating is first come\, so arriving before the 5 PM start is the smart move even in the quieter fall season. Like the series’ other gold-printed dates\, the venue itself flags this one as a show worth circling. \nFor more Beachside Live shows and Nearby Happenings up and down the coast\, see what is coming up on the event calendar.
